More About Coach Coach Candy

I’ve been coaching track and field and running a fitness business for over 20 years. I started a track club in Georgia "Major Impact Track Club" and Major Impact Texas where our kids compete for USATF and AAU. In addition, I coached at Georgia State University for two years. I also have been coaching at a high school level since 2002 and am currently doing that. I am currently coaching Greenhill Middle and High School Track Teams. I train kids from elementary school age up to professional athletes. I am extremely passionate about coaching and working with youths by helping them to maximize there athletic talents. My expertise is in sprints and hurdles/400m to mid distance. I am Level 1 USATF Certified and work with my Major Impact Track Club. I specialize in speed training for football players to help with their 40 times and speed on the field for different positions. Additionally, I coach speed and agility for athletes in different sports such as volleyball, basketball, football, tennis, baseball, soccer and etc. I love working with youths and I emphasize not only the fitness aspect of the sport itself but I focus heavily on techniques.

I competed at Arizona State University for 4 years on a full athletic track scholarship. I was the University's top 400m hurdler for all 4 years and I am currently on the all time list in school history. I earned All-American honors for my performances and have several conference honors as well. In addition, I broke the Georgia state high record and am currently the record holder in both the best 100 relay, 400m and 300m hurdles for my high school. In addition, I am on the all time list for 300m hurdles in state of Georgia. In 2012 I competed at the Track and Field Olympic Trials in Jamaica in the 400m hurdles.

For my training sessions, I first do an evaluation of the athlete by sitting with them and going over there expectations and there track events with them and explain my program to them. After briefing, I take the athlete through a warmup including running a lap or 2 warmup laps will change depending on the athlete specific track events. Athlete will also do a number of sprint running drills such as A Skips, B Skips, Bounding, High Knees and etc. This will help athlete work on form and helping with there warmups. After sprint drills i will have the athlete do some additional stretching and some short 30m sprints to help warmup the muscles. The athlete will then go into the actual running workout that day. For example, If I am working with a hurdler that session I will take athlete through hurdle drills such as hurldle hops, A skips over hurdles, walk overs working on hip flexors and etc. I then will go into hurdle running workout such as, 4× 200 hurdles timed if that athlete is working on the longer hurdles. If I am working with a sprinter, mid- distance, distance runner I will design there workouts accordingly and plan and taylor there workouts based on there events and where they are in the season. At the end of practice, I have the athlete do cool down jog and some strectching a short core circuit.

Coach Candi was awesome. She went through several skill drills to see where Molly was and then gave her things to work on. Molly said she learned more in that hour than she did the whole year in school running track. She said that Coach Candi was easy to listen to and she took time to explain what to do but most importantly why to do it. She is really awesome.
