More About Coach Brian

I have been coaching track and field for 12 years. After finishing up my competition career in track as a decathlete I began coaching. I coached at the Division II level for 7 years. Five of those years I spent at California State University, Chico and two at Colorado Mesa University. I am currently coaching and teaching at Modesto Junior College, this will be my sixth season with the program.

I have coached a 3-time national champion in the decathlon who also competed at US Nationals. All-Americans in the decathlon, heptathlon, high jump and pole vault. Conference champions in the decathlon, heptathlon, high jump, long jump, pole vault, triple jump and javelin. All-conference athletes (DII and JC) in events previously mentioned. I have had the pleasure of coaching athletes at the national and state meets at the division II and JC level. While at Chico State we won the Webb Cup deeming us the top Decathlon school in the nation regardless of division.

I typically work with track athletes, but have also trained ultimate Frisbee athletes. Most of my coaching has been with college aged athletes. I have also worked with youth, high school and masters level athletes. I have a knowledge base where I can coach across multiple sports.

I have a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Teaching Education and a Master's degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology. These both are in the field of Kinesiology.

I started playing organized sports around the age of 5 and haven’t stopped. While attending Escalon High School I was a three sport athlete all four years while also being a scholar athlete. I was a part of the section champion basketball team and section runner-up baseball team that was also league champions. I was team captain of our soccer team and was awarded various awards throughout my high school career.

While at Modesto Junior College I competed as a decathlete for two years. I was a two time state meet qualifier, all-conference in multiple events and was awarded field MVP of our team. I maintained a 3.0 gpa and transferred to Chico State after two years. My freshman year we were conference champions.

I walked-on to the Chico State track and field team as a decathlete. After earning my spot on the team I became an all-conference decathlete. I became team captain and a member of the Student Athlete Athletic Committee. I was a two time all-conference decathlete and scored in multiple other events. During my time at Chico as an athlete and coach I was a part of 11 conference champions between the men and women’s programs.

Post collegiately I played club Ultiamte Frisbee for six years. I continue to stay active working out, playing basketball, softball, tennis, golf, Ultimate Frisbee, soccer, and most recently triathlons.

A typical session includes proper event/sport specific warm up. This will vary depending on the drills and activities of the session. Once our warm up is complete, specific drills that focus on technique and knowledge of the event are taught. This all depends on what your goals as an athlete are and what experience you have with desired events. Technique drills will vary with skill level and experience. Throughout technical training, mental training will be taught as well. The mental game is just as important as the physical game. Interval training is always an option if it fits within the goals of the athlete and our training sessions. Once the training aspect is complete proper cooling down and stretching is done for injury prevention. A typical session will last 60 minutes.

Coach Brian was great! Our 12yr old daughter had her first training session and I noticed right away he made small talk and was very engaging on feeling comfortable which we find to be very helpful since our daughter tends to be on the shy and quiet side. Coach Brian even had her try something new, long jump. She had not thought about doing before but has now spiked her interest. Highly recommend Coach Brian!

Our family highly recommends Coach Beeman! He is excellent with our 10 year old and she looks forward to training days. He does an excellent job explaining and demonstrating drills and techniques while giving feedback along the way. I love that he asks her “what did you do differently?” which allows her to evaluate herself and think about what her body is doing.
He’s friendly, patient, positive, and meets her where she’s at while making learning and working out fun.

Coach Beeman provides us (parents) with updates, answers our questions, tells us exactly what he’s doing and why, and is open to our input. We will definitely keep scheduling training sessions with him to continue supporting our daughters needs.

We had to drive from the bay area to modesto and it was worth it. Once coach Beeman taught our boys the techniques for Javalin our boys pick up really fast and we see improvements. I highly recommend coach Beeman.

My son started doing shot put for the first time a month ago. He threw 40.1 at his first meet. But he was getting inconsistent coaching and was confused as to the correct way to move forward. Coach Brian worked with him on basics and gave him great drills that he can use on his own. By the time the last session was done my son had more confidence in moving forward and has a training plan he came up with based off of Coach Brian’s sessions. Coach Brian was easy to communicate with and was flexible about when we could meet. The final session was even blustery and a little rainy. I highly recommend him.
