More About Coach Brett
I have only coached youth athletes and not for a few years. I worked at various baseball & football camps growing up, and most recently trained a middle school aged football player for the summer of 2019. However I have ample experience playing sports (almost all of them) and helping younger players get better, learn playbooks & schemes, etc.
Captain of Hockey team at Westwood high school, assistant captain of Football & Baseball teams. Won the multi-sport athlete award in 2011. Played 4 years of Football at Endicott College in Beverly Ma as a Wide Receiver. Started my junior and senior year. Took a lot of pride my junior and senior year in helping freshman receivers understand the playbook and how to run certain routes / concepts.
I would have a totally different plan depending on the desired position of the athlete (and which sport). I would feel comfortable coaching an athlete 1 on 1 in any of the three sports I have experience in - Football*, Hockey, or Baseball. For this example, let's say I'm training a Wide Receiver in football.
- 10 Minute Dynamic Warmup - not stretching, things like high knees, karaoke, and jump squats
- 10 Minute Stance work - getting off the line of scrimmage as efficiently and quickly as possible
- 15 Minutes Routes "on Air" - Building off the stance work and start running basic routes (slants, hitches, fades) with no ball yet. Work on fundamentals of route running
- 10 minutes hand eye coordination and ball skills
- 15 Minutes running routes with ball - put it all together
This would be a standard plan. Of course things would change for the very first session with an athlete, or with a more experienced athlete.
