More About Coach Bob

I am an RRCA certified running coach. I have worked with individuals and groups over the past three years, from beginners to BQ-level runners. Clients come to me with a variety of goals: some are interested in improving their fitness; some are looking to tackle longer distances; and others want to improve on race times or meet certain standards on personal fitness tests. I have crafted short-term and long-term training programs designed for each runner and have been very successful getting them to reach their individual goals.

I started running in my 40's. I have run countless 5K's, 10K's, and half-marathons, 18 marathons, and 14 ultra-marathons (including multiple 24-hour and 100-mile races). I occasionally place in my age group in local races, but I do not claim to be an elite runner.

Each runner has different experience levels and different goals, so the approach I take is different with each person. The first thing I do is learn where that runner is in his/her development and what he/she wants to accomplish. If someone is just starting out, I may meet him on the W&OD trail or the National Mall to stretch out his mileage to get ready to take on his first 5K, or whatever his goal is. If someone is shooting for a PR or a BQ time, I may meet her at the track for specific speed workouts. I do not have a one-size-fits-all approach to coaching.

Bob is an excellent coach. I can definitely tell a difference between training for my first two marathons solo vs. training with Bob for the last three months. He created a plan catered to my goals and prior racing experience. Our sessions pushed me physically, but always fun - especially during the humid summer evenings. I really appreciated that Bob accommodated my shifting schedule needs, and was patient with me when I started to doubt myself. I would definitely work with him again on my next running goal.

Two sessions down and I've enjoyed both, which means a lot given that they involve, well, running. Coach Bob is very patient and encouraging!

Bob was SO helpful. I feel so much more confident in my ability to run a long race after working with Bob. Bob has given me great advice on big things like training exercises, and even small things that make a big difference, like water and fuel intake during a race. I can't imagine *not* having his help to complete an upcoming race. If there were 10 stars I would give him a 10!

Coach B has been very helpful. In my first session he reviewed my pace and form, and in our second session he had developed a targeted training plan for the summer. He is flexible and willing to work with you on any specific goals. I'm feeling good about my fall race goals!

Really enjoyed the first session. Bob definitely seems to have a lot of knowledge of the marathon that will help me get to my goal. First day and we already identified some minor mechanics I need to work on, and that my goals are achievable. Great session overall, looking forward to more as my crazy schedule permits.

Bob is very professional accommodative and friendly. Just in couple of sessions and with customized training plan I was able to do an even split long run (20miles). Before Bob, the last few miles of my run was always a drag with walk/jag combo.

I have done 10 marathons before start training with him and I'm extremely satisfied with his coaching.

I am really enjoying training with Bob. He is really motivating, is tailoring our schedule around my needs, abilities and interests, and is patient as I find my running feet again. I would highly recommend him!

I'm just starting my journey with Coach Bob. During our first session, Bob ran with me as we talked about my running goals. He eventually followed behind to check on my mechanics. He's a seasoned runner who has taken notes over the years. As much as I was initially impressed with Bob's coaching, it's his character that stood out. Bob does a lot of races with the organization "Back on My Feet;" a nonprofit that exposes the homeless to running. Having worked with the homeless for a couple decades, with clients participating in the program, I can say they do life-changing work. Bob gives his time to be part of that work. Soon after meeting up, I purchased a package to train with Bob. I have a strong hunch it's money well spent!

Coach Bob did a great job finding out ahead of time what I want to accomplish, explaining his approach, and running with me. Despite hideous heat, I still almost enjoyed that first run!

Coach Bob was fantastic. He pushed me physically but was also a great motivator for life. I look forward to future work with him!

Coach Bob was awesome during our first session. He was very casual and listened to everything I had to say; running history, goals, issues, etc. He ran along side me to check my posture/pace/cadence, took videos of my gait, and gave me some good pointers to start off with. He's developing a plan for me to get back on track, and to shave of race tims before our next session, and I have the upmost confidence that he'll get me on a path to succeed. Highly recommend him!!!!
