More About Coach Austin
I am passionate about the physiology and psychology of running. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, and am currently in my final year of a Master's Degree in Sport Psychology. My educational experience has provided me with a holistic view of training, encompassing the physiological, psychological, and nutritional components of running, as well as given me the opportunity to work with hundreds of local athletes at the high school and collegiate levels. I am also a volunteer assistant coach for cross country and track at an NCAA Division II Institution. I would love to work with runners of all age, experience, and ability levels!
I ran four years of cross country and track at the collegiate level and earned the NCAA All-American status three times, as well as ran the opening leg of a National Championship Distance Medley Relay (1200-400-800-1600) team. I competed at Central College (Pella, IA) during my undergraduate degree, and then one year at Minnesota State University, Mankato, during my graduate degree. I am currently training for post collegiate races ranging from 1 mile to half marathon. My personal bests include: 4:10 (mile), 8:24 (3k), 14:24 (5k), and 36:43 (road 7 miler).
Consultation will usually begin with an intake session: roughly 45 minutes to an hour of getting to know each other and getting a sense of the client's goals and expectations. The following sessions will be dependent on what the client is looking for and will be tailored to their specific needs. I am a trained to help clients develop vital psychological performance skills such as focus, confidence, motivation, and mental toughness, but I can also provide training plans for a variety of race distances (800 to Marathon). I am an advocate of combining physical and mental skills training, in order to develop a holistic improvement in performance and enjoyment. Consultation sessions will take place in a confidential space.
