More About Coach Anna

I have two years of experience coaching at UCLA Recreation's Bruin Swim Camp. I primarily coached children 6-10 years old, but have also worked extensively with middle- and high-school aged athletes.

I competed for UCLA's Division I Swimming and Diving team from 2010-2014. I served as team captain my senior year, and competed at NCAAs in my last three seasons for the Bruins. In 2012, I competed in four events (100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, 200 IM, 200 backstroke) at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

My client's goals come first! Before jumping in the pool, we will discuss what the athlete hopes to gain from the session and work from there. I will evaluate the athlete's skill level during a short warmup, and from there we will move into technique and conditioning. Each session will conclude with a warm down, and I will leave the athlete with a few key takeaways to start implementing on his or her own.

Anna is the best! As "new” adult swimmer that wants to race but I couldn’t flip turn and I needed some help. I attempted to teach myself which didn't work out. So after one session with Anna guess what... I can flip turn and I picked a few seconds with suggestions around my stroke.

I highly recommend Coach Anna! I contacted her to help me improve my swimming technique, which was terrible. For example, I only breathed to my right side, and used my right shoulder a lot more than my left shoulder. Because my poor swimming technique was giving me shoulder tendinitis, I knew I needed to adopt better technique, if I wanted to take up swimming as a regular exercise, which was my goal.

After one session with Coach Anna, I knew the proper swim technique, which I was then able to practice the next day. By the end of my swim the next day, my technique had substantially improved and, more important, I was not putting near as much strain on my right shoulder. I swam for over an hour this morning, with no shoulder soreness whatsoever. So, in a very short period of time, I have already realized my objectives for seeking out Coach Anna.

In addition to teaching me proper swim technique, Coach Anna showed me some exercises I can do to keep my shoulders in good swimming shape and minimize the chances of injury. I had not seen some of these exercises before, so this was another thing I learned from my session with Coach Anna.

In addition to being a good teacher, Coach Anna was easy to work with. She was able to meet at a time that was good with me, and showed up on time. She also followed up our session with an email to provide me instructions for the exercises she taught me.

I am definitely happy with my experience with Coach Anna, and give her an unqualified recommendation. I will continue to realize the benefits of our session every time I go to the pool and swim for my workout.
