More About Coach Allysa
Swimming has always been one of my passions in life. I have been swimming seriously since I was about 14 years old. I was successful in high school and was a 5 time Pennsylvania state champion and an 18 time high school All American. After high school, I went to the University of Virginia and then after a semester transferred to Indiana University and swam on the varsity team for the entire 4 years. While at IU I was: 5 time Big Ten Champion in 200/400 IM, Big Ten Record Holder in 400 IM, 7 time NCAA All American, 2011 USA Swimming National Team Member, 2011 Pan American Games Team Member and bronze medalist in the 400 IM, Indiana Univ. record holder in 200 IM/ 400IM/ 200 Breaststroke, 3 time Big Ten All First Team, Big Ten Swimmer of the Year 2012, Indiana University Athlete of the Year 2012, Olympic Trials Qualifier in 5 events, Competed at Olympic Trials in 2008 & 2012, 2012 Big Ten Swimmer of the Meet, NCAA finalist in 400 IM/ 200 IM/ 200 Breaststroke.
While I was swimming I worked at Indiana University's swimming camp for 4 years. My job at the camp was to video campers under water and then comment on their strokes on a dvd that each camper leaves with. I also have given private lessons to children during my time at college. After I graduated and "retired" from swimming, I continued to give swimmers private lessons. I ran my own swim camp that I called the "Swim Fast Technique Clinic" which was a camp that I ran and organized. I was a guest coach at Lehigh University's swim camp. I also did a mini camp with the Hazleton YMCA that was very successful.
Typically, my sessions are run based on what each swimmer really needs work on. Swimming is a very technical sport, so depending on the swimmers strengths and weaknesses we work on the technique of the strokes. I develop skills that make the strokes more efficent. I also have knowledge on how to have better nutrition, dryland exercises and mental preparation for swimmers who are very serious about the sport.
