More About Coach Zach

I attended De Anza College in Cupertino, CA where I took a few courses on coaching. Our professor was Gary Zarecky, who was one of the premiere coaches at Sweetwater HS in San Diego. He eventually became a D1 coach who excelled in an uptempo style of play. While at De Anza, I was also an assistant coach at a High School in Saratoga, Ca. I am still currently working as an assistant with the program. In the 7 years of coaching, we have won 2 League titles and made the CCS playoffs in every year.
As an individual coach, I have worked with players of all ages, ranging from 7-35, both male and female. I have been working with CoachUp since the beginning of 2013 and have worked with athletes of every level.

I am also CPR Certified and NFHS Concussion in Sports Certified.

Awarded CoachUp's 2013 Coach of the Year

Team USA Youth Development Basketball Coach

As a player:
Scored 20 Pts per game as an 8th grader
Co-MVP of PHS JV as a Freshman
3 Year Varsity Starter at PHS
Top 10 in CCS for assists 3 years straight
Averaged 14 Pts, 5 Rebs, 5.5 As, 2 Stls, 1 Bl per game during Senior year
1st team all-league senior year
League Champs Junior Year
Played one year at De Anza College
Went from a reserved role to consistent starter.
Described as "hard working" and "an intelligent player" from head coach Jason Damjanovic.

As a coach:
7 years as Assistant Coach for Boy's Basketball at PHS
Coaching Certificate from De Anza College
Individual workouts with:
- Most Improved Player of the Year
- Freshman of the Year
- Sophomore of the Year
- 1 Sr. of the Year.
- League MVP
- 6 1st Team All League players
- 5 BVAL All-stars
- 8 Collegiate Athletes

To begin the initial workout, the player will go through a series of dynamic stretches. The athletes will then begin some light ball handling as well as full court layups to warm up.
I then put the players through a series of drills in order to see what skill level the athlete possesses. Upon completion of the initial workout, I will compile individual workout plans specifically designed to improve areas of weakness, but also focus on strengthening the areas of the game in which the player excels. Each workout will have both new and familiar drills, to create a sense of consistency, but also keep the athlete from becoming complacent. Video will occasionally be used to help the athlete see for themselves how they maneuver/play/etc.
I work to create a high energy environment that inspires the player to want to work hard and eventually enhance their level of play. I believe that positive reinforcement while also holding players accountable will help successfully develop a player. I love working with players that are equally passionate about the game as I, that are coachable and are open to constructive criticism.

Great first session looking forward to the next one!

Knowledgeable and helpful in breaking down each move. Left with a list of things to work between sessions. Excited to continue training.

Great first session! Looking forward to more.

Coach Zach is an excellent coach. I am a former collegiate football player and can tell a great coach when I see and experience one. Coach Zach breaks down fundamentals and teaches disciplined movements that are required to improve your game. He takes his time with athletes and I am 100% positive my son will improve his game under the guidance of coach Zach.

I HIGHLY recommend Coach Zach and couldn't be more satisfied with his work and training with my son.

Coach Zach was great, my son loved practicing with him and learning. The greatest compliment is one that comes from the student, and he wants to go back every week.

Coach Zach has been fantastic -- easy demeanor with my son, and at the same time pushing him to get the best out of every session. Very knowledgeable about the game. Highly recommended!

Meticulous coach who is genuinely interested in his player's improvement. We've rebooked with Coach Zach and will continue to do so for both my boys. They have improved under his instruction and I'm sure they will continue to better themselves under his tutelage.

Coach Zach really zeroed in on my son’s weaknesses and noted them in a non-critical and constructive way. He pointed out the details on what was wrong, the reasons why it should be fixed and the corrective actions. What I liked best was that he didn’t settle when my son didn’t quite get it right and kept on breaking things down into smaller steps so that he could work it out. The other thing that I liked about coach Zach was that he specifically told my son things to work on until our next session - Actions to take for improvement.

Coach Zach is a terrific coach. His credentials are impeccable. He takes time to watch/examine the players game then offers feedback featuring incremental adjustments the player can implement that will improve different facets of their game. His guidance/instruction is well communicated, he offers encouragement during moments of progress and frustration while also creating an expectation that the player will build upon the progress they've made without resorting back to bad habits. I highly recommend Coach Zach if you're looking to push your game to a higher level.

Coach Zac is awesome! My son is excited to attend each session. Coach pushes the athlete as well as encourages him, which results in great practice. I’d recommend coach Zac to anyone who wants to improve their game, and will sign up for more training sessions myself. Great job Coach!

Zach is the best coach there is! My son has blossomed in his skills, stamina and mental makeup under his coaching. he is positive, and is able to get the most of the session and the kids. I strongly recomend Zach to anyone that is looking for a coach who makes hard work fun!

First training session after a few years was great! Looking forward to next one

Coach Zach was fantastic in the first session with my son! He was patient and articulate with his coaching, and took the time to explain every drill, and why they were working on it. I was impressed with the small details that he focused on, and how it played a role in the larger development. We're on the waiting list for more sessions... Coach Zach is awesome!

I know Zach personally and would only trust him with my Daughter's training! He's very knowledgeable, understanding, patient and detailed oriented. If your looking for your trainer/coach...well look no further!

My son Amit has been playing basketball from 5th – 8th grade in non competitive leagues. He was a straight ‘A’ student, but only played sports casually. He was accepted to a prestigious all boy school, Bellarmine which is highly competitive and dominates many of the sports in the WCAL. In preparation for tryouts, he began private basketball lessons with Coach Zach on a weekly basis in the Summer of 2016.

Each week Coach Zach would have an intense one hour session going over fundamentals to progressively challenging advanced drills customized for my son. At the end of each session I would record an iPhone video of Coach Zach demonstrating the drill, which my son would playback and imitate as part of self practice daily drills. This was incredibly effective and I saw a night and day performance improvement after only 10 sessions.

Sessions were tailored to big man (power forward, center) skills included some ball handling, offensive / defensive positioning, footwork and shooting such as: stationary/low/pound dribbling, left/right hand layups, triple threat movements, float footwork, rebounding, outlet passes, L cuts, I cuts, sweep, over the top rip throughs, Mikan drill, reverse Mikan, pivoting, drop step, close shooting and crab dribble (pivot/hop).

Coach Zach is an amazing college level basketball player himself and can demonstrate the techniques like few others. He has years of experience with kids including coaching high school basketball. He’s patient, insightful and a genuinely caring person. During and after each session Coach Zach would provide verbal and written feedback to give instruction for improvement and celebrate successes. He has a passion for what he does, and every week inspires my son to continuously improve. My only regret is that we didn’t discover Coach Zach earlier to unlock my son’s true potential.

My son is 13 years old, 6’1” and currently a freshman at Bellarmine College Preparatory. He is still getting all A’s on his homework to date, and attending Bellarmine’s pre-season conditioning and open gym (basketball scrimmages) 2 hours a day x 3 times a week. He will be continuing his basketball skills training with Coach Zach on the weekend and preparing for Bellarmine’s basketball tryouts in November.

THANK YOU COACH ZACH!

Coach Zach helps both my son and my daughter improve their fundamentals and establish their practice routines. I appreciate the fact Coach Zach can tailor his training based on individuals and their need.

Coach Zach has really taken my two sons' basketball skills to the next level. It's been a great experience working with him, and his workouts are the highlights of my sons' week. He really tailors the workouts as needed to fit my sons' points of emphasis, which is a big plus, and gives very helpful feedback after each workout. Overall, my sons just love working out with Coach Zach, and we can see great results coming from it as well.

Great coach and very nice with kids. Always on time and very well organized classes.

Coach Zach is a very good coach. I sent my daughter there for fundamental training. She learned a lots and she enjoyed the training process. He had very good coaching skills on dribbling, shooting, laying up....etc. Even I was educated a lots during the training session.

Coach Zach is an excellent teacher. He covers the fundamentals really well. It helps the kids to understand the game rather than just playing it. He makes them think and that really helps them to grow. He is very organized and always mixes up the sessions so that there is no repetition.

Coach Zach has been terrific for my daughter. He is very patient and calm, and works at the pace that my daughter wants to keep. He is always very encouraging in practice, making sure that he focuses on the positives. My daughter has had a big improvement in confidence and skills since she started working with Zach. I rate him very highly as a coach.

Coach Zach has been instrumental towards my long-term progress as a basketball player. I came to him with the basic understandings of how to play the game since I do play a lot of pickup games from time-to-time. Coach has provided candid drills to help me correct the fundamental flaws in my game. I have also been able to pick his brain in regards to his approach to the game and how to read+react to various in-game scenarios. I would definitely recommend him as a coach to anyone seeking to take their game to the next level.

That's good stuff. I see his confidence gaining. Thanks for all you hard work. The goal is to apply what he's learning with you in a game. He's open to the development process. I'm constantly telling him about the assist to turnover ratio. Thanks again for all your hard work with him. The ability to shoot at a high rate of efficiency is one of his goals. It's all in the process. Being shot ready will help that. Thanks for working with him on that. He's learning about the positioning of being ready to shoot without any wasted motion. Thanks again keep up the good work.

coach Zach is great! We had two sessions with him now and my son love it! He's nice and patient to kids, he spent lots time teaching him the basic skills which is very helpful for beginners like my son. Good start so far and we are moving to the Next level! Thank you, coach Zach!

My son loves the class with Coach Zach. After just one session, he was totally transformed into a confident player! He started to score in his game for the first time. He can't wait to have his next classes with Coach Zach.

Awesome coach who takes personal interest with his student.

After only one session with my son, I was impressed with his teaching style and his ability to both physically and verbally communicate his training instructions to his student. I can tell that he will help my son reach his goal of making his high school basketball team next year and we look forward to more training sessions with Coach Zach.

Zach is an incredible coach! He is patient, very knowledgeable, articulate, caring, and talented. Our son has gained a great deal of skill and knowledge about the game due to his insight and teaching ability. Our son moved from a JV to a Varsity position and has been consistently given high praise from coaches and fellow players about his increased level of playing. Zach you ROCK!

It has been great working with Zach. I'm in my 40s looking to have a little more fun when I play recreationally. Zach's lessons are fun and effective. And he's very encouraging, which is important given that its hard teaching me, an old dog, new tricks. He's also recently started teaching my 10 year old son, who's also enjoyed his first lesson and is looking forward to more lessons with Zach.

Coach Zach is a great coach. I'm an adult athlete who plays recreationally, but just wanted to get some training to have some fun and improve my game. We had a great workout. He pushed me hard, and we found areas for improvement. I'm definitely going to keep going with Zach.

Good information and super great to work with.

Great lessons!!!

Coach Zach is the man. I've been trying to tighten up my handle and wanted to learn how to do a hop step to split defenses. Just one hour with Zach and I was feeling a lot better about everything.

Definitely going back. Highly recommend.

Zach has been great with my 10 year old Son for four sessions now. He has a great approach to teaching my Son is learning a lot. -Blake

Zach has provided three sessions of coaching for my daughter and she stated that her ball handling has improved. I could also see that she is approaching her plays with a greater degree of confidence. We have more sessions to go and I do expect tremendous progress during this season.

My daughter plays basketball in a freshteam and I never thougt she would have bad experience playing in a highschool team when she was kept sitting on the bench for the most of court. She starts loosing her confidence. Zach found out where my daught need to improve and PLAY with her(I saw Coachs talk but few of them really play). 5 Star!

Zach was great with my son for his first session. Akash is looking forward to learning basketball and getting fit with Zach.

When my son started with Zack he loved basketball but he did not have the skills to get on the court. Zack has transformed my son into a great player. Who can play with anyone his age. The best part is my sons attitude on the court is always positive. That is the best skill my son has learned with Zack.

My son loves working with Zach! After only one session he was consistently hitting his free throws and improved to the point his team coachs took immediate notice. After our next session My son was showing off his cross over like a pro!! Zach is a great basketball role model and my son actually listens to what he has to say and uses it! Thx Zach for building confidence and skill in my kid! See you next week!!

Coach Zach really helped me with a variety of skills. I had no idea he was so versatile as a coach since I knew he's a Guard but he was able to create drills that focused on footwork and finishes in the key. The up-and-under is a move that we practiced on several occasions that I feel very comfortable using when I'm in the post. We also worked on attacking the rim from outside the key. My handling abilities are probably the weakest part of my game yet he has helped me hone my two-dribble attack to the basket. Still a work in progress though! The best part about working with Coach Zach is knowing that he believes in your ability. He motivates and encourages and has truly been a great coach. I look forward to improving under his guidance!
