More About Coach Trevor

Since starting my coaching career at the junior college level just 3 years ago, I have develop 3 conference champions, one in each event (shot put, discus, and the hammer throw). 2 northern section champions, 1 in the shot put and 1 in discus and 2 top 3 finishes in the state championships. In this past year, I have developed 3 girls who have had no experience in the throwing events And now they have thrown adequate distances to obtain scholarship offers at the university level. I have worked with high school athletes just as early as this year as well as junior college and university level athletes. I started coaching at College of the sequoias and I recently spent this past season as the throwing coach for Mt. San Antonio College (MtSAC). I have my master’s in kinesiology and I am certified through the national strength and conditioning Association as a special strengths coach.

I did not compete in the throwing events in college, but I did compete in football at Central Methodist University. During my time there I became a 3 time all conference player, I was a 2 time all American (1st and 3rd team), and I broke my school’s career and single season sack record. I know that the passion that I have for football and becoming a student of the game has allowed me to become a successful well rounded throws coach. I have dedicated my time to each individual athlete that I have worked with and have been able to build a great group around me with the work ethic needed to be successful.

My curriculum usually starts with an evaluation of past history, has the athlete been injured before? If so how severe and are they taking any necessary precautions to prevent it from happening again? I will always consider the health of the athlete before anything else, so we will Implement, a specific warm up routine to maximize our efforts in practice.
We will then go through a cognitive development period in which we will use drills without the implement so that we can gain a level of communication that makes future practices much more efficient.
Lastly we will start our progression in the throw for the day, we will start from fundamental principles until the athlete shows that they are prepared to move on. They will be provided a link to their specific drills that are needed so they can study when they are not at practice. Then they will be prescribed with injury prevention protocol that must be followed when they are also not at practice.
