Tony M.

Tony now is in his fourth year at CWU as jumps & javelin coach after three years as head track & field and cross country coach at Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Oregon. He was tasked with the opportunity to rebuild a program that was once a national junior college power.

At CWU in 2011, Tony coached both the indoor and outdoor GNAC Men’s Conference Champion in the high jump as well the a 1-5 sweep of the men’s event outdoors scoring 31 points. In 2012 Indoor & outdoor his jumpers were a major force in the team scoring with the men winning the long and high jumps. Since coming to Central his jumpers and javelin athletes have become a force to be reckoned with by conference opponents. In 2013 he coached three NCAA D2 National qualifiers.

He has extensive experience working with all track events and age groups, with clubs, high schools and colleges. As the head a boys & girls high school track coach at Bishop Manogue in Reno, his teams won 10-Division Championships, 5-Nevada State Championships and 3-State Runner up trophies in 10-years. Manogue was recognized as one of the top track teams in all leagues in Nevada. He has coached over 40-individual, Nevada State High School Champions with at least one in every track & field event, as well as several past and current Nevada State Record Holders. He coached the fastest miler (4:08) in Nevada HS history & Jr. National Team Member in the 1500 (3:51), Brad Meyer(1500, 3000, 5000), Justin James (high jump) as well as several other National Age Group and Jr. Olympic Champions. He was instrumental in adding girl’s pole vault to Nevada high school track. Tony was named the League and Division “Coach of the Year” several times and was named "Nevada State High School Coach of the Year" by the National High School Federation. He is a respected coach, clinician and motivational/mentoring speaker. He has been a track & field coach and athletic director for more than 26-years. As an athlete Tony played junior college basketball and competed in track at the University of Nevada.
