More About Coach Tinekqua
I have practical and applicable experience coaching and training basketball in St. Thomas USVI since 2006. I recently relocated to Sanford Florida in which I mentor and train girls that relocated with me. My coaching is based on the skills, knowledge, principles, and life lessons that were imbedded in me from my trainers and coaches that aided me in my basketball career as a player and high school coach. Therefore, I implement those same attributes to the athletes that I work with.
I take pleasure in working with athletes of different ages, skills level, and gender, however I especially love the challenge of coaching girls between the ages of 10-16. The reason for this is because I love teaching and enhancing the methods of diversity and respect to create a learning experience that utilize education, athleticism, and life as key essentials. I focus on making athletes become an offensive triple threat on the court. By developing good dribblers, shooters, and passers, through repetitious drills. I also work on post plays, setting screens, moving with out the ball, and most importantly defense. I believe in teaching athletes how to have a complete and well rounded game. I do all of this through a series of tough love so that I can also develop their mental toughness.
I start each session out with a dialog between the athlete and myself. Through this dialog I learn their interest and their future aspiration, and it gives me a chance to motivate them not on their skills but because of the courage to dream big. Afterwards, there's an intense warm up, followed by many offensive and defensive drills. At the end of each session I recap verbally what we accomplish and at times give the athlete skills to work on at home. I conclude with a positive or motivational quote or brief speech. I want my athletes to always feel their best no matter what. I am a strong believer in the saying " If you feel good you play good."

Before I begin an physical work I sit and have a dialog with my athletes. I do this so that we both can get a sense of one another. I love talking to them first so I can get understand how passionate they are about the sport and how much work they're willing to put in for where they gotta go. Afterwards, I begin with an intense warm up. Couple sprints, lay ups, and fast breaks drills. I proceed with offensive drills that will implement shooting, dribbling, and passing. To conclude, I finish as strong as we begin. More sprints, cone jumps, ladder steps to improve quickness, foot work, and push up.
My next session will follow as such, but instead of focusing on offense, this session I focus on defense. Teaching how to read passers, jump the lanes, press and trap the ball, pressure defense and help defense through defensive skills.
At the end of each session, I conclude with encouraging words for my athletes to meditate on.

Arlene Wilkinson/ Parent (Testimonial)
I have written this with the highest regards. Tinekqua Christian has been a mentor, coach, and volunteer role model for the youths of the Virgin Islands. She has been a vital link to the success of many student athletes. For the past 7 years I've known coach Nek she has been a person with great characteristic, strong morals, values, extremely disciplined, and self confident individual. Her commitment and dedication will be an assets to any athlete or group of athletes.
Kadeem Thomas/Coach (Testimonial)
I worked with Ms. Christian as an assistant coach for Gladys Abraham Elementary School girls basketball team back in 2008 and 2009. I must say it was one of the most hard working, caring, patient, hands on leaders I have ever seen grace the basketball court. Tinekqua took control of a team of girls that mostly have never played the game before and molded them into a championship team. She made sure her team never lost focus. Tinekqua will be a great attribute to any athlete because of her knowledge, experience and most of all her love for the game and the players she dedicates herself to.
Kheeleh Burner/Player (Testimonial)
Ms. Tinekqua Christian is a very serious minded coach that is very determined to lead her players to success. She have always believed in teaching her players the basic fundamentals of how basketball should be played. Being an outstanding player herself, she was given the opportunity of seeing some of her players excel to the collegiate level. Her love for the game and her strong personality will always have a great impact on her players.
Sheraine George/Player (Testimonial)
Coach Nek is a well rounded coach who not only helps her team gain a relationship on the court but also off the court. She have been very helpful in a lot of ways to my younger sister and I since our mother died. She helps her athletes strengthen their weaknesses with constructive criticism. She is a very good motivator. No matter what you may need help with whether it may be school, personal, basketball, or someone to talk to she is always there.
Delano Hunt/Owner of Hunts Electrics (Testimonial)
I've known Tinekqua Christian since 2003 and have had the opportunity to watch her play and coach. Her talent and passion for the game transcends to children who have unique talents for basketball and those also eager and willing to learn. She has changed many children lives for the better and opened doors for them beyond the basketball court. Ms. Christian is a young, phenomenal, eccentric, and opportunist who pushes for the best in people even though they may not see it for themselves.
Frank Thomas Jr./Player (Testimonial)
Coach Christian has been a source of positivity along with being a spark of motivation both on and off the court. Her basketball IQ and passion for the game is displayed in her coaching. She continues to develop players by enhancing their game while on the journey to success.
Ranai Evans/Player (Testimonial)
Tinekqua Christian is an awesome coach. She teaches you the basic parts of the game and then enhance your skills that will help you to advance yourself to a different level. At times she may yell, discipline, push, and work you hard, but through it all she does it because she wants to see you become the best that you can be. As they say " a coach never goes hoarse for a player with no potential." Not only is she your coach, but she often time acts like our big sister or even to some a mother figure. I have enjoyed and taken in everything that she has taught me for the last six years of my life. One thing that I will Love would be to make her my coach again!!!
Tinea' Hanley/Player (Testimonial)
Having a sister as coach was sucks at first, because I felt like she pressured and expected more out of me than the others. But as the years went by things got better and easier as I realize it was all out of Love. Tinekqua is a very great coach and she always make a bond with every team that she coach. I guarantee that every athlete that she coaches and trains will love her because not only do she spend time with them on the court but also off the court.
Geneiva Weeks/Player (Testimonial)
I started playing ball in the 9th grade and wasn't that good at it, but I loved the sport a lot. I had the run ins with many people that thought I wasn't good enough, but coach Nek saw something that other never saw, my potential and work ethics. She helped me improve my game, built my confidence, and strengthen my self esteem. She also thought me the meaning of team work. She made our team feel like a family, not only did we have a connection on the court but off as well. She made sure we worked hard to improve our game, never took it easy on us. She was more than a coach, she was a big sister we never had.
Iona Wilkinson/ Parent (Testimonial)
As the mom of Tinekqua Christian I've always seen a passion for coaching from the tender age of 11. Even the times she played on teams, she often offered intelligent advice to her coaches. I followed Tinekqua during her career from elementary to the high school level not only to support but also a parent because my youngest daughter played for her. Her IQ for the game is spectacular. What entice me the most about Tinekqua as a young female coach, was her love for the athletes on and off the court. Her concern was not about making them champions alone on the basketball court, but champions in life. One of her motto and belief is "If you create a chemistry between players off the court; the chemistry on the court becomes natural and automatic. It makes coaching much easier. I know Tinekqua ambitious and innovative ways of coaching and training will be appreciated by many parents for their child's/children future endeavors.
Owanna Stout/ Juvenile Probation Officer (Testimonial)
I have had the privilege of witnessing Coach Nek's leadership in basketball training camp. Coach Nek is very professional and knowledgeable basketball trainer. I would recommend her as a trainer for young athletes trying to work on their game. Coach Nek focuses on fundamental training and works with athletes one-on-one to address their weaknesses and maintain their strengths.
Kelly Burner/ Basketball Trainer (Testimonial)
Coach Tinekqua Christian from day 1 has had the will to learn, play, teach, and coach the game of basketball. This lady by nature is also a born leader having the gifts sf patience, understanding, and fairness. She uses the game of basketball in certain life lessons. Coach T. C. played for elementary, middle, and high school team finishing her playing years at the University of the Virgin Islands that equipped her to teach on all levels. She's excellent and will encourage any parent to trust her to not only coach their children but teach them the game.
Dr. E. Terrell Tillman/ Professor (Testimonial)
Compassionate, Committed, and Consistent....though not knowing much about basketball, I do know the character of Tinekqua Christian. She is the triple threat as I've described above and I believe she is the right coach to take athletes to higher standards.
Derek Heyliger/ Housing,Parks, and Recreation Basketball Coordinator (Testimonial)
I've known Ms. Tinekqau Christian all her life. I've watch her grow from a child into a young adult. I've also coach her on different levels and she was one of my most disciplined players. I've also had the opportunity to work with her at summer camps and her work ethics is outstanding. She shows great interest in her work. I've also had the opportunity to sit on the bench and watch her coach, she's a player's coach. Thanks to her mom for raising a respectable young lady. I wish her the best in her future endeavors.
Aniquah Swan/Player (Testimonial)
Coach Nek is one of the most devoted, persistent coaches I've been associated with. She's not just a coach to her players, she's somebody they can confide in off and on the court. She wants her players to learn the game not just play it. She tries to bring the best out of them. With hard work and a with a coach like this you're bound for success.
