More About Coach Stephen

My experience in coaching and giving private lessons expands to two years. I have coached and assisted in 18u Travel ball, Pony League baseball, High School Varsity Baseball, along with a few private pitching lessons on the side. I am willing to work with any age, as I have coached and trained kids ranging from age 10-18.

As an athlete I played High School baseball at Calvary Chapel and lettered for varsity all four years. My junior and senior years I was a 1st team all Alpha league member as I led the team in every pitching category and the league in strikeouts and wins, along with helping my team make it to the CIF semi finals my senior year. I just currently finished up my sophomore year at Compton College where I was a relief pitcher. I finished the season with the 4th most innings on the team, with the 3rd best ERA on the staff, along with giving up the least amount of hits per nine innings. I have been coached by former MLB pitchers Dave Frost (Angels) and Greg Matthews (Cardinals) along with coaching great Mike Scolinos.

My sessions are typically 50 minutes long. I spend the first ten minutes letting the athlete get loose by doing dynamic and static stretching, along with light running to get the blood flowing. After this, the athlete will spend 10-15 minutes playing catch. I am a big believer in long toss as it is best way to build arm strength and longevity. After this, I will have the athlete throw a 30-40 pitch bullpen and during that time I will address mechanical fixes and other suggestions. The bullpen is the best way to work with the pitcher as I will be able to see any mechanical flaws that need to be fixed. This will take about 20-30 minutes. The last few minutes of the lesson are the most important part. Arm Care. The athlete and I will do several different shoulder and scapula workouts to strengthen and protect the rotator cuff muscles. This may involve bands, weighted balls, and plyometrics.

Coach Stephen is professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable. He comes ready with a game plan for each session, and is extremely insightful. He's able to analyze pretty quickly any mechanical errors, and is able to suggest proper techniques, etc. My 16 year old son can't stop talking about how Coach Stephen "taught me this, and showed me that..." I highly, highly recommend Coach Stephen.

Coach Stephen was great with my 12 year old. My kid needs practice on his pitching technique and building his confidence. Coach Stephen was patient and very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend him.
