More About Coach Sondre
I have coached my brother, Simen Guttormsen (collegiate and professional pole vaulter) for the last 5 years. I have also coached and written my own training program in collaboration with my dad. Additionally, I’ve worked with pole vaulters at Rider University and middle/high schoolers in Norway during summer camps and clinics.
I’ve competed at both the collegiate and professional level. I’m a two-time NCAA champion in the pole vault with a PR of 5.86m (19'3"), Olympian, and a World championship finalist. I’ve been on the Norwegian National team since 2018. Before specializing in the pole vault I competed and trained for the hurdles and decathlon.
Personal bests:
Pole vault: 5.86m (19'3")
Hurdles 39": 14.02sec
60m: 6.98sec
Each session will be catered specifically to the athlete’s goals and will be communicated before the workout. Typically, a session will start with a general warm-up with jogging, stretching, coordination drills etc., before moving to more technical drills. This may be exercises like hurdle drills, med ball throws, walking/skipping/running drills or plyometric exercises. Then we will either move to sprint-specific work like sled runs, accelerations, and max velocity sprinting or to technical work in the desired event (short hurdles, long jump, pole vault drills etc.) We can work specifically on the event or do drills, coordination, and/or conditioning for the desired event depending on your schedule and weekly training program. I’d also be happy to provide additional exercises to do at home, with links to videos and descriptions of the exercise.
My main goal is for the athlete to feel like they improve from session to session and get closer to accomplishing their set goal.
