More About Coach Shannon

I have been coaching field hockey since 2009. I have coached with multiple travel teams in Long Island, NY, Division 1 sport camps at Syracuse and Hofstra University, and USA field hockey Futures site in Long Island, NY.
I have worked with ages 11/12 years old and up.
I have a Bachelors in Exercise Science, a Masters in Applied Clinical Nutrition, and currently a practicing doctor of Chiropractic with a specialty in movement based therapies.

I absolutely love combining my sport of field hockey with all the knowledge I know now about the human body.
I love being able to take players to the next level - not just developing the skill of field hockey, but improving their physical strength, balance, and stamina through physical training and exercises. Footwork, core stability, single leg balance are all aspects that can be improved upon while learning the skill of field hockey.

I played Division 1 field hockey at Syracuse University from 2008 - 2011.

2010: Saw action in 18 games for the Orange • Earned NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad honors.

2009: Made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament at Princeton • Scored her first career goal versus Georgetown • Named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll both semesters • Earned NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad honors • Named to the 2009-10 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.

2008: Saw action in four games • Made her debut in 12-0 victory versus Colgate • Named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the fall semester • Earned NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad honors • Named to the 2008-09 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.

High School: Played two years of varsity field hockey and three years of varsity lacrosse at Springbrook H.S. • Scored 17 goals her senior season • Served as team captain on the field hockey team in her sophomore and senior seasons • Team captain of the lacrosse team her senior year • Was a member of the Spitfire Club team from 2004-08 and the Tazmaniacs team for the 2007-08 season • Was named to the 2007 All-Examiner Field Hockey First Team and the 2007 All-Gazette Field Hockey Second Team • Was voted the 2007 MVP of her high school team • Four-year honor roll student • Member of the National Honor Society.

A typical session with me would be a mixture of stick skills, ball/body awareness, field awareness as well as physical training working on foot work, single leg balance, and core control and stability.

We will always start the session by preparing the body for movement and agility. Breath work, single leg stability, and core stability by using just our body will be of the utmost importance before even picking up the stick. I find if you can't control your body well, how can you control a stick and a ball?

Then, we will move into basic stick skill work - dribbling, passing, moving with speed/ change of speed, shooting, and so forth.

Combining both the skill of field hockey with preparation of body movement and developing body awareness and stamina will build a well rounded athlete.

Client Reviews

Coach Shannon has been great so far. My daughter is entering 6th Grade and Field Hockey is new for her. It's been two sessions and my daughter is sold on Field Hockey and has learned so much already.

Coach Shannon is an amazing coach. Extremely knowledgeable, easy to work with and professional. It’s clear she cares about the athlete as a whole and has the skill set to help develop a player all around.

Shannon is awesome; my 15yr old daughter LOVES working with her!

Coach Shannon has my daughter off to a great start in field hockey! Thanks to Coach Shannon's knowledge and enthusiasm for the game, my daughter is confident in her decision to learn a new sport. Coach Shannon focuses on conditioning in addition to skills. Training sessions have been easy to schedule, and feedback has been helpful. I definitely recommend Coach Shannon for beginners or current players!

Training with Shannon is an important part of my week. She is enthusiastic, motivating, and knowledgeable about all things fitness. Shannon is completely aligned with my goals, and she's pushing me to achieve them. She is very creative in progressive sessions, making them both fun and challenging. If you are experiencing burnout or would like to improve your overall fitness, I recommend you call Shannon.

Coach Shannon is the real deal! She combines her knowledge of D1 level field hockey with her specialty in health and wellness. It’s amazing to already see the difference in my daughter's field hockey performance. I highly recommend her for all your field hockey and sports training needs.

Shannon was referred to me by a friend earlier this year and I FULLY recommend her to anyone I know. I'm a super active person and crossfitter and truthfully could have used more mobility in my training before. I've replaced having to go to physical therapy from time to time when I've had injuries to seeing Shannon proactively (weekly).
Dr. Shannon has helped me enormously. She is knowledgeable, compassionate, and highly skilled. I strongly recommend her.
