More About Coach Shane
After Running at the Collegiate level at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside I became the assistant coach for the Men's Cross Country and Track program. I coached there for 5 years creating the workouts and coaching several athletes to the NCAA Div II National Track meet. I eventually found myself in Tucson, AZ and in 2011 I became the head Cross Country and Track coach for Catalina Magnet High School. Every year I coached at least one person to the Div III state Cross Country meet. In 2013 my boys team placed 2nd at sectionals behind Rio Rico and were 6th place at the state Meet. I was honored with the Div III coach of the year by the Tucson Citizen. I have also coached several athletes who have qualified for the Div III Arizona State Track meet in distances from 800 up to the 2 mile. I have coached several girls and boys who have earned athletic scholarships to run at the collegiate level. I have a National Federation of High School Associations (NFHS) certificate which included Fundamentals of Coaching certificate.
I started running when I was in middle school. I ran all 4 years in High school in Cross Country and Track as a Varsity runner. I earned an Athletic Scholarship to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside which is a NCAA/NAIA Div II school and part of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. I ran 8k and 10k cross country and track in events ranging from the 1500m through the Marathon. I qualified for the NAIA National Outdoor Track meet in 1997, 1998, and 1999 in the Marathon. In 1999 I placed 3rd earning All American in a time 2:33.26. In 2002 I placed 66th at the Chicago Marathon running my PR of 2:27.15. I won the Milwaukee Lake Front Marathon in 2004 with a time of 2:35.33.
My PR's for the events listed are as follows:
5k-15:08
8k Cross-25:36
8k Road-25:33
10k - 31:43
1/2 marathon -1:11.00
Marathon -2:27.15
Before any training program is created I will talk with each athlete to find out what their goals are and where they are physically and mentally. A solid base needs to be built before any type of speed session can be started. A strength program can be started during the base phase which will help when the speed work begins. Speed and endurance workouts will consist of hill work, tempo runs, fartleks and intervals. I work on form by incorporating form drills, core strengthening and band work.
