More About Coach Shaelie
I have eight years of basketball coaching experience across a variety of age groups and competitive levels. I have coached basketball clinics and camps for athletes ages 5–18 and was selected to coach with the Denver Nuggets Youth Basketball Academy. In addition, I have three years of experience coaching middle school boys’ and girls’ basketball, where I have focused on skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and building athletes’ confidence on and off the court.
I competed in collegiate basketball at the NAIA level for six years, playing for Corban University and Eastern Oregon University. Throughout my collegiate career, I was a consistent starter, starting every game beginning my freshman year. I earned Defensive Player of the Year honors three times, was named Second Team All-Conference, and received multiple academic awards recognizing my performance both on the court and in the classroom.
A typical session with me focuses on building strong fundamentals, balance, proper technique, and confidence. I start with a dynamic warm-up and movement work before progressing into skill-specific drills such as ball handling, footwork, passing, shooting form, finishing, and defensive technique. I emphasize doing the fundamentals correctly before increasing speed, intensity, or difficulty. Each workout is adjusted to the athlete’s age, skill level, and individual goals, with plenty of repetition and feedback to help them develop skills they can confidently use in game situations.
