Video is a fantastic resource. This allows me to see wrestlers in competition and provide a customized approach where we are addressing the wrestler's needs and can tie the instruction back to specifics in matches. With wrestlers, it is important to provide the rationale for the behaviour change -- the when, why, how, and how it fits into an overall match strategy. A wrestler should have a strategy and set of techniques that fit together within his strategy. Teaching isolated "moves." is not as effective as developing plans of attack and defence. Technique is relevant against a backdrop of creating opportunities and active defence.

1. Tape Review
2. Address Fundamentals / structural problems
2. Practice executing targeted techniques in scenario (less than live) situations
3. Strategy development - may not be the first practice
4. Technique Selection/improvement to fit the strategy

From hard-won experience, both personally and working with athletes, I know that the weeks before championship tournaments is a time for calm. It is the time for peaking; reduced time in practice, short intense live bout repeats and drilling known techniques. My most often repeated advice on game day is, “do what got you here.” This is not a time for innovation.

What happened in the matches where you won though you believe the wrestler was at a similar level to you? Did the match play to your strengths as a wrestler? What are those strengths? Can you leverage those strengths with additional physical and technical tools to channel competitors toward my current strong points as a wrestler? Do I need to spend the time and effort in order to create entirely new competencies? What kind of wrestler do I want to be?

What led to some of your most frustrating losses last season? Can I avoid exposing a current weakness with technical adjustment and tools? I would give these questions a shot on your own. In order to become the best wrestler and person you can be, you need to develop the ability to analyze your performance, create and implement a plan for improving performance.

If you are looking to accelerate learning and improvement, you should consider working with a coach who has the depth of experience in the sport, understands how to win wrestling matches, and who can help you find answers to the questions above as well as implement a plan for addressing the conclusions derived from these questions. I'm here if you need me.

Client Reviews

Coach Seth far exceeded my expectations. He reviewed the few videos I had taken of my son, took some notes while pointing out the good and bad, then put together a custom session during which he gave great instruction and encouragement. I look forward to our next session with him, and I would highly recommend his services to any wrestler who is looking to improve their game.

Coach Seth was fantastic, handling all the details and making sure that my son had a great session. He is patient and a great instructor. In fact, my son said that while it was the toughest practice he ever had, he also learned more than he had at other practices. Thanks so much for your time and we can’t wait to book again!

Great coach very knowledgeable very patient and explained very well. Will be using him again if he is available.
