More About Coach Ryan

This past summer I had the opportunity to work under NBA trainer Drew Hanlen, who in my opinion, is the best in the business. He works with some of the best players at the college and NBA level. It was an amazing learning experience that I'll never forget but more importantly an experience that will allow me to train my clients more effectively.
I have coached a total of three years of high school basketball. In my first year of coaching I was the JV head coach at Pacifica Christian high school in Santa Monica. In my second year I was an assistant varsity coach at Milken high school in Los Angeles. This past season, I was the JV head coach at Costa Mesa high school. Aside from coaching high school basketball, I specialize in player development either one on one or in a group setting. I have worked with kids as young as 4 as well as college and NBA athletes.

I played all four years of high school basketball at Crespi Carmelite and New Roads high schools. I was also on the practice team at University of Redlands.

Due to time constraints, my focus will always be proper shooting mechanics. From my training experience, my clients struggle the most with learning and applying the proper techniques as old habits die hard. Once a player demonstrates consistent form with a good shooting percentage, we will move to shooting off the dribble. When a player can shoot efficiently, especially from deeper ranges, it will force the defender to close out. This puts the defender in a disadvantageous position, opening more driving lanes and options for the offensive player.
Once a player has displayed improvement in his/her shooting skills, we will work on ball handling skills to polish and sharpen the player's dribbling abilities. I like to end a session with game simulating action to help translate the workout to game situations.
With these goals accomplished, I feel I have provided my client with the best training possible and prepared them to play well in their games. Nothing is more rewarding than hearing that a client contributed to his team. That is my ultimate goal for my client, no matter what his or her age is.

My son enjoyed the session and want to do more so he can grow

He was very knowledgeable and quickly got to know where my problems lie in my game. His drills worked well for the things I needed to improve on (my shooting efficiency) and quickly got me to work on it. Definitely a coach worth going to to help your game up. Will always want to work with him in the future because I know he has so much more for me to go on.

My son enjoys Ryan’s workouts! he is learning the things that will help him with next level basketball

Working with coach Ryan is a true pleasure! He is extremely patient and pays very close attention to detail in order to maximize the athletes abilities. Highly recommended!

Coach Ryan was an amazing and patient teacher. Breaking down what seemed difficult to the simplest and understandable ways. He taught a lot about reading the defense and a-ton of moves with many counters. It's nice to have such a professional coach. Sooner than later he'll be a full time NBA coach. Thanks!

Ryan is an excellent coach! His attention to detail has really helped me improve my game, and he will work with you until you feel confident in your ability to execute. Whether it be shooting, ball handling, he has a knack for finding the weakness in your play and helping you improve on them. Highly recommended!

We’ve had a few sessions within Coach Ryan (for my two kids aged 9 and 6) and already I see an improvement in their skills in dribbling and shooting. More importantly, my kids are enjoying the sessions and look forward to basketball training a lot!

Very likable. My boys finally liked a trainer.

My son (11) had an awesome 1 hour session with Ryan. Ryan spent the first 10min evaluating and the rest of the hour teaching skills that helped my son improve in the areas he was interested in.
Great coach!

Ryan is a great coach. Very attentive to our son's goal. He sees the area that needs improvements and help my son gets better.
I have already seen improvements in my son's basketball skill. Thanks Ryan

My session with Coach Ryan was awesome. He helped me identify the parts of my game that needed the most work and had appropriate drills ready for all of them. I highly recommend him!

Coach Ryan was great. He responded promptly and my 12 year old son had a great time learning with him.

Great coach. Very patient.

Great Coach. Highly reccomend for shooting and footwork.

A lot to digest in one hour. Good workout.

Coach Ryan was wonderful. Ryan was friendly, professional and motivating. My 12 year old had fun and asked to see Ryan again next week. Thank you Ryan!

I’m so glad I finally found a coach as great as Ryan! He pushes you to play your best, while making sessions fun and informative. I really enjoyed our time together and can already tell how much it has payed off. It’s clear how passionate he is about the sport and that definitely shows in his coaching style. I highly recommend Coach Ryan to anyone no matter their ability.

Ryan helped me focus on my shooting form and gave me great advice on how to shoot consistently. He also gave great advice on selling the jab and figuring out how to get better opportunities to score.

Responsive to emails, showed up on time, son enjoyed session

Ryan was very patient and good with my five year old twins! We will definitely be using him again!

Highly recommend. Nice guy. We took only one class for my 8 years old son. We look forward to continuing for the future.

My son had his first session today with Coach Ryan and I was very impressed. My 6 year old instantly felt comfortable with him. Ryan is very patient and great with kids. My son is already asking when we are meeting him again! Excited for our next lesson!

I took my 6-year old son to see Coach Ryan. After the first lesson my son was noticeably better. Ryan is great with kids. We'll be signing up for more lessons. Highly recommend.

Great session!

Terrific teacher of the game for young basketball players. Was very patient with my frisky five year old twins and had the perfect combination of calmness and expectations of concentration that was appropriate for such young students. I would definitely recommend Coach Ryan for other parents who want their young children to get introduced to the game in an enjoyable and focused environment.

Coach Ryan was awesome! Molly really got to learn a lot in just an hour session! Thank you for your patience!!

Very patient and explained what he was doing with boys

Ryan was very helpful, I learned more basketball in a hour than I ever had.. But it was the first session we had the second one he texted me and said “he just caught a flat tire” I asked when and hasn’t responded all day.

Great energy and love the way he teaches. All ways helped me or with something i didn’t get

Coach Ryan had instant rapport with my son. He does a great job teaching him some of the detailed things that he wouldn't pick with his school coach or in a group setting. Highly recommend.

Ryan was amazing. My son 7 year old son picked up many new skills in the first session. Well worth the money!

Ryan is very nice and patienty. Very appreciated!

Coach Ryan great he has a lot of knowledge about the game and has helped me tremendously

Great coach.

Coach Ryan really understands the specifics of teaching kids. After only one session, my 8 year old son David, was able to overcome several obstacles both in terms of his form and mental blocks. Coach Ryan understood how to get David, who normally has trouble with attention, to fully commit and zone in during the practice, and as a result, David is more encouraged, motivated, and focused than ever after seeing his efforts pay off.

Coach Ryan was able to assess my 8 year old's game quickly and customized the training session to his interest and needs. My son has to forget some of his current incorrect techniques to learn the right way. He is excited that Ryan will continue to be his coach. I recommend Coach Ryan to any parent looking to improve their child's game.

After only one session w/ Coach Ryan, my son is very motivated and knows exactly what he needs to work on. In the one hour, we saw very different techniques. My son feels Coach Ryan really takes the time to teach, help him. We look forward to our next lesson

Coach Ryan is a very good coach, but very unreliable. Many times he needed to reschedule or cancel, and once even tried to reschedule us for a time that we were already scheduled with him! He was late for every session except the first one. Today he was a no-show, despite me texting him several times to confirm. My boys loved working with him, so it was a shame.

Coach Ryan has been very helpful for my son. He has shown him new techniques that improved his skills on the court.
Thank you!

Coach Ryan displayed a wonderful patience in coaching my 10 year old grandson, Bill. Bill enjoyed the session. He told me afterwards that Coach Ryan was very clear in his directions and very specific in what he wanted to build on in the future. The coach does know his techniques and is able to convey them effectively. I was very impressed with Coach Ryan and his overall teaching style.. Bill Cole

We had never had a personal trainer and my daughter was a little nervous. Ryan was very professional and made her feel very comfortable.

Coach Ryan met with my 13-yr.-old son. He needed much help as he hadn't learned the proper skills, Basketball IQ, etc. My son really likes working with Coach Ryan. I recommend Coach Ryan to all ages.

Very knowledgable coach. Ryan is patient and puts together a very intelligent practice. I am very grateful for choosing Ryan and highly recommend him based on his high basketball iq and friendly personality.

Coach Ryan was very knowledgeable and experienced. He knew how to use our hour efficiently. We covered a variety of aspects of the game throughout our session and I left a better player physically but more importantly mentally.

Coach Ryan was great.
As soon as the introduction were made he got down to business.
He gave a great workout and my son was a ball of sweat by the end.
We would recommend him and we have already booked more sessions.

Coach Ryan is a great coach! He is very patient with my 5 year old. My son has learned so much just after the first session and is always looking forward to playing.

Coach Ryan has been working with my two boys (ages 9 and 11) for the past couple of months, and we are so impressed with the progress they are making and the focus he has helped them achieve. It's not easy to hold the attention of two young brothers, but Ryan's knowledge and no-nonsense approach have earned their respect and commitment. They look forward to their training sessions with Ryan, and we can always count on him to be there on time and ready with different training exercises to build on their skills. I am sure that his expertise is equally valuable to adolescent or adult clients, but he is definitely a great role model for young boys. This has been a truly great coaching experience that we hope to continue as long as he is available!

Great positive attitude and on time . Thanks for showing my son true leadership skills.

My 14 year old son is getting ready for high school and Coach Ryan is just what he needs. We are seeing progress after only 2 sessions and will definitely be working with him more. I think it really helps that he is a high school basketball coach, so that experience is critical to our son's success. So far, we highly recommend Coach Ryan. Very happy with him!!

Ryan was great with my son and worked in his game.

Coach Ryan is a great guy. Not only were his drills excellent for my two sons, his style of careful engagement and instruction meant that my children received an enormous amount of coaching in one hour with immediate results. Kind, related, knowledgeable, and passionate. We were lucky to find him.

Coach Ryan did a great job of working with my son who is not the most attentive!

Coach Ryan is great. He customizes his training plan to your needs. I wanted to train footwork so he set up some cones and we worked through jump stop finishes and spin moves. Only after an hour of training I felt comfortable using what he taught me at game speed.

coach Ryan did a great job of communicating and leading my son in being a better player. I would highly recommend him.

Ryan took the time to work efficiently and patiently. Even if I did not understand he would take the time to demonstrate He was and explain it until I did. He made sure that I did each drill correctly and efficiently. Since Ryan has made sure that my footwork, balance, and much more are correct, my stats have improved in games. He has made me a smarter and very productive player. Ryan is an efficient communicator, and he really knows the game. Ryan has lots of experience and works hard to make you become a better player. He works on all aspects of the game shooting, ball handling, defense, IQ, rebounding, you name it he works on it. His experience is really exemplified through his training and has developed my game to the next level. My game has already improved and he will defiantly make your game improve as well. Ryan was one of the best trainers I've had and I defiantly recommend training with him.
