More About Coach Ronan
I currently coach with Knights Lacrosse Club (2031 team) while competing as an NCAA Division III defenseman at Norwich University. I specialize in training defensemen, long-stick midfielders (LSMs), and defensive midfielders, helping athletes improve their footwork, body positioning, stick skills, communication, and defensive IQ.
As a Physical Education major, I bring a teaching-focused approach to every session, emphasizing strong fundamentals, game awareness, and confidence. I was also selected to Norwich Men's Leadership Committee as an underclassman, where I help promote accountability, communication, and team culture. My goal is to help every athlete become a more confident, disciplined, and effective defender.
I compete as a defenseman for NCAA Division III Norwich University while pursuing my degree in Physical Education. Competing at the collegiate level has taught me the discipline, preparation, and defensive IQ required to succeed against high-level competition.
I was selected to Norwich Men's Leadership Committee as an underclassman, recognizing my commitment to leadership, communication, and team culture. My experience allows me to teach the techniques, habits, and mindset that help defensemen, LSMs, and defensive midfielders elevate their game with confidence.
A typical session will begin by establishing expectations: athletes are here to improve, compete, and enjoy the process. I believe that the habits you build in training are the habits you bring into competition. Every rep matters, and athletes should approach each drill with the same focus and intensity they would bring to a game.
Each session is customized to the athlete's position, skill level, and goals. Training will focus on developing well-rounded defensive players through proper technique, repetition, and game-like situations. Areas of focus include footwork, body positioning, stick skills, ground balls, communication, defensive IQ, and position-specific decision-making.
My coaching style emphasizes constant communication and feedback. I want athletes to understand why they are doing something, not just how to do it. I will demonstrate techniques, provide corrections, and create opportunities for athletes to repeat skills until they become confident and consistent. As athletes progress, sessions will increase in speed, pressure, and complexity to help prepare them for real game situations.
