More About Coach Rodrick

Hello, I am new to Coach up but I have been coaching for at least 15 years. My coaching experience is split between coaching teams as well as personal training. Athletes that I have had the privilege of mentoring have all excelled in achieving their personal goals through basketball. I've helped teams reach undefeated seasons by focusing only on skill development during practice time. This way each player builds up their individual confidence to become a scoring contribution to the team. I've recently helped my 2nd grade team achieve an undefeated season averaging 50-60 points a game. Through this program you or your child will gain a wealth of experience, confidence and growth in skill set. Fun Fact. my son started off not being able to dribble at all and by the age of 8 is able to dribble 4 balls at once.

HS: 4 yr varsity Letterman and 3 yr starter at point guard.
HS: Chevrolet player of the week (*2)
HS: 2004 Voted best backcourt in DFW
HS: Ranked top 50 in TX ( several sport recruiting media outlets)
College: One of a few players to achieve 500 or more in points rebounds assists.
College: Division 1 4 yr starter.

Professional Experience ( International & Minor Leagues)

My approach to training starts from establishing beginner, intermediate and advanced. Once established we target any weaknesses in your game to make that the primary focus. Other focuses during training will be on developing ball handling ability, shooting, defensive fundamentals, footwork & finishing around the basket. For the skills academy we focus on 10 kids max from Beginner to Advanced and target each of these categories. The pace and level of play will be based on the level the group is at (Beginner, intermediate, and advanced).

Coach Epps has helped our son grow his skill level and confidence, all while he has been able to have fun and enjoy the game. Coach Epps does an exceptional job coaching and mentoring young athletes on and off the court. it doesn't matter about the skill level of a player with Coach Epps. His caring attitude and approach about what he is trying to accomplish with his program has been an amazing experience four our son!
Our first session with Coach Epps was very memorable for many reasons. For 12 years I've coached my sons so I could not just share precious time and bond with them, but also wanted to ensure they got an all-around youth sports experience that would teach them more than just sports. When I say all-around experience what I'm referring to is, skill development, character development, emphasis on teaching the basics of the game, team work building and most of all give your best! Coach Epps exemplified all of these coaching points and some. The net result is my son learned more about the game and himself by being on Coach Epps team. My son has been with Coach Rod for almost 2 years now. he started off running up and down the court waving at me. Every season he has gained more confidence and skills with Rod. Rod is patient and fair and also encouraging with all of the kids. he is inclusive so that every child gets a chance to improve no matter what the skill set. I highly recommend him as a basketball coach.

Coach Epps to me teaches kids the right approach to the game. I feel like he gives kids basketball fever. My daughter hardly ever picked up a ball to practice while at home. My son did not have any interest in playing basketball when we asked him.
