More About Coach Rodney

Hello Runners! My name is Rodney and I am a certified Run Coach. I have been coaching athlete's for over two years by online and in-person. I coach levels from 800 meters, 1500, 2-miler, 5k and up to a full-marathon. I am an in-person and online coach which allows me to coach runners all across America and Internationally. As an in-person coach, I pick specific routes or sites to training my runners depending on the purpose of the run or workout. For instance, some days we go to the high school track for speed sessions and other days I either run or bike along side my runners on certain routes which are beneficial to help them progress as a runner. Most of my current athletes I coach range from the ages 15 years of age to 55 years of age. I am qualified to coach at all age groups. To become a RRCA Certified Run Coach, you are required to become CPR and First AID certified. As a result, I am have RRCA, CPR, and First Aid certifications and all of which are currently up-to-date.

In high school, I ran track and field and my events were the 100, 200, and 4 x 100 meter relay. I qualified for state in the 200 meters my junior year at Palm Bay High School in Florida and came in 5th place. My senior year was promising as I was expected to make states again and accept a track scholarship to a few local colleges. However, my mom got really sick my senior year and passed away. After she passed, I had to move back to Detroit, MI to live with my grandmother and lost all my passion for running. As as a result, I gave up any chance to run collegiate. After about about a year, I did regain some passion and began to train at neighborhood High School tracks to work on my sprinting just to stay in shape until one of the high school coaches approached me and asked if I ran school there. I responded no and he carried on about how he had not seen speed like mines in over 5 years. That gave me motivation again but my window was closing to become a collegiate athlete due to the need for a job to pay bills. So instead of going to college, I accepted a full-time position to work for Chrysler because I felt it was my best option at the time and the job paid really well which enabled me to become financially stable. As I got older, I began to run through my neighborhood on a daily basis and thats when I fell in love with long distance running. The camaraderie was unbelievable among distance runners and was amazing to where I instantly feel at home and in love with this sport. And the rest is history!

At first, I have a client answer a series of questions through a questionnaire which allows me to know what workouts and runs they have done in the past along with other information about their past and current health, races, weekly mileage, goals, goal race times, and etc. For a beginner runner, I like to make sure they first have the proper footwear. Once that is accessed, I take them through form drills and breathing techniques. After they get the hang of that as beginners, we will start off with a warm up run. Followed by some dynamic stretches and form drills. After the run/workout, I will have have them do a cool down run and some strength exercises to end the session. This goes for experienced runners as well. And before every client session, I have their entire run and workout made out from the pace and distance I want them to achieve. .
