More About Coach Rodney

In 1999, I started off in the ranks of elite track and field coaches as a graduate assistant coach at University of Tulsa, under the tutelage of current NCAA champion coach for the University of Kansas Jayhawks. Gaining a wealth of track and field knowledge to pair with my highly successful track and field career, I was able to help mentor and guide dozens of high caliber athletes to successful levels. After leaving the collegiate ranks, my heart and passion for molding athletes led me to Memphis Tennessee, where I became the head track and field and cross country coach for Melrose High School from 2001-2004. At that time Melrose was a football powerhouse, but through diligence, hard work, and an uncanny ability to mold champions, I led Melrose High School in 2002-03 to their first track and field state champion title since 1965. I love the sport of track and field and have guided athletes of all ages to success on and off the track. I am a current member of USA Track and Field, and continue to sharpen my knowledge base through in-depth research and meticulous study of the sport. I look forward to molding your next track champion.

My future champions can expect from me a holistic training module, which focuses on comprehensive development of a training program that builds on strengths and reinforces areas that need improvement. This will be accomplished through knowledge acquisition through interactive lessons about the sort of track and field, video study, and intensive training sessions that focus on the following areas of development:

Speed endurance (Examples)
1. Runner incurs a high oxygen debt.
2. Runs distances of 100-600 meters. Total distance is 2 ½ times racing distance.
3. Rest 5-10 minutes.
B. Tempo endurance: aerobic workout that helps increase oxygen uptake, which helps
shorter recovery time.
1. Doing the run slower helps runner learn tempo and rhythm
2.Emphasis is on quantity, not quality.
3. Rest will be short.
C. Strength endurance: activities that last longer than 10 seconds in duration with some type
of resistance running – long hills, or stadium steps.
D. Endurance running: pure aerobic running. Runs of 15-45 minutes.
E. Power Speed: speed of muscle contraction is emphasized. Fewer than 10 seconds in
duration
F. Event running: runs that teach runner how the race should be ran.
G. Speed: full speed runs of 30 to 150 meters. Rest is usually long.
H. Strength: general and specific strength development. Traditional weightlifting. Polymeric
used as needed.

All sessions will be tailored to the individual needs of your champion.
