More About Coach Ricky
Experience in coaching youth from 4-18, girls and boys_adults. Ever since my days playing in college, I was about a vibe 'to teach the youth'. Teach them how to live, how to survive, so I coached and coordinated youth sports at the Y.M.C.A 's in New York City's Harlem Branch, East Side 46/96 and Chinatown. Counsel/Coached at Summer Camps and ran Youth Clinics at Asphalt Green facility in Manhattan's upper east side and had teams in city wide leagues in the summers.
In Los Angeles, I coached teams at the North Hollywood Recreation Center, and Glassel Park Rec. these last 8 years with ages 7- 16> and began private coaching. I was the tech-skills coach for Chatsworth H.S. Girls Varsity during summer sessions 2018.
In NEW YORK, I coached with the Van Arsdale H.S JV squad in Brooklyn 2019. and had 8 private clients before the pandemic -
all over the city.
I can still play the game and definitely love giving back to the kids. It seems there is a lack of good coaching at the youth level.
I am a technical and fundamental skills developer, but its all about them having fun and realizing that hard work in any endeavor will pay off.
I was a street baller. My style of play was "the run and shoot" 3 man. I played all over the city, NYC, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Harlem, including Rucker and "The Cage" in the Village. Reaching high school, 85-88' , I was an invite three years running, to the 5 STAR Basketball Camp Training Summer sessions for the east coast, other invites were LA Laker3, Rick Fox and Billy Owens. I was a slasher, a three man, but you have to play every position to play the3. and I had crazy ups'. I went to Spring Valley H.S. They were the 82' State Champs. I didn't go to College to play ball but I made the team as a walk on' @ S.U.N.Y Albany, NY. We went to the NCAA Sweet 16 tourney twice and the school is now Div 1 Ranked. My high school coach was a master at the guard position...Sir William "Willie' Worsley" of the Texas Western Miners basketball team during their now-legendary 1966 NCAA championship run. See the Movie GLORY ROAD"...
I was also coached in college for my 4 years there by "Lowes Moore", a former NBA guard for the Nets, Cavs and Clippers.
In a single session lasting " 2 hours"; That's what I give.. I begin with the run and shoot. Footwork without dribbling..from this they learn to shoot and pull up at their normal running pace. Shooting work follows where the subject will shoot off the running dribble. After this warm up. There is usually a 200 shot format I apply within the arc redefining the shooting form and immediate rebound techniques. From there we will add transitions until we reach one on one moves from points on the floor. Another fixed shooting stage from within the paint. If there is a group, then we move on to situation play. This general format will vary as I have a host of drills and challenges that are designed to raise the confidence and prowess of the said player. Frustration is therefore overcome. The Game is based around the missed shot... however, The point is, to be able to shoot endlessly, always seeking to perfect the next shot.

Coach Ricky was great. He taught me the basics and the fundamentals since I was a beginner and not only left me to do it by myself but also did it with me. Would definitely recommend him because of his creative style of teaching basketball. Can’t wait for the next session.

We are only on our 2nd session but Coach Ricky has been great so far getting my son acclimated to the game again after coming off an injury that had him out for a year. It's great to see his confidence building again. You can tell coach Ricky has a passion for the game that shows through his coaching.

I already feel more confident as an athlete and basketball player after just one session with Coach Ricky!! He is very patient and has a great way of explaining things. We covered a lot of different skills in 2 hours and I can't wait to learn even more in our upcoming sessions. I highly recommend reaching out to Coach Ricky if you're looking to improve and have fun!

Coach Ricky is an amazing coach. After the first session, my 16 year old feels more confident about his game. Coach Ricky gave some great tips on how to build his endurance and how to improve his skills. The session was challenging, but rewarding because my son learned a lot. I recommend Coach Ricky to anyone who wants to take their game to the next level.

I booked an initial session for my 16 years old son - who needs a little bit of training before getting back into his high school basketball team - with Coach Ricky, and he loved it. My son was very impressed by the teaching skills and knowledge that Coach Ricky was able to convey in the two hours they spent together. We are very much looking forward to more sessions with Coach Ricky in the very near future!

Ricky made a positive impression with my boys in the first session. He's very patient but knows when to push them the right way keeping it fun. After two hours, they both told me "I want Ricky to be my coach". He has great knowledge and advice about the game.

Coach Ricky has been so fantastic in developing my son's basketball skills. He has given us some great shooting and ball handling drills that my son can practice between sessions. He is one of the most patient coaches that we have had and he actually makes the sessions fun and engaging. Although he is not overly intense in the way he approaches teaching, my son still has immense respect for him and listens intently. He also is extremely flexible/reliable in scheduling sessions and great at following up with detailed Session Feedback for us to focus on with our son.

I would recommend Coach Ricky to other moms who want to get their child to the next level in basketball.

I recently joined a men's recreational league and wanted to get into shape. Ricky used a combination of basketball drills with running to push into one of the most satisfying workouts I've had in a number of years. Ricky is highly motivating, non judgmental, and honest. I will be booking more sessions with him. He challenges you to raise your game and I accept that challenge.

Leo Familia (Testimonial)
Coach Rick is a very old school coach that believes in fundamental principles. When I was a kid growing up in New York City, I stumbled across coach Rick at a ymca. At this time in my life I could shoot the ball but couldn't make a lay up to save my life or have the mental aspect of game. He saw the potential in me and kept working with me. He even introduced me too his former college coach who was a former nba Knicks player. This experience helped me grow as a person and as a basketball player. With some of coach Rick's help I managed to get ranked in the top 100 in NYC and get a scholarship to the University of Maine>
From unsolicited parents. (Testimonial)
Other coaches and parents of even opposing teams recognize the manner in which I communicate with the youth. They appreciate the energy I bring, and the way I explain, demonstrate and teach the kids to be creators.
