9X Personal Trainer of the Year Coach Ricky Jackson spent 7 years at the helm of the Strength and Conditioning program at Texas Southern University responsible for eighteen different sports in the athletic program. He was praised for the development of the university’s weight room into a fully functional facility for all eighteen sports while providing personal training for university students and employees. He was also responsible for dietary programs for weight loss/gain, and educating athletes about nourishment to achieve optimal performance.

“Coach” Jackson has played an integral part in the following successes during his tenure:
•2006 Men’s and Women’s Tennis SWAC Championship
•2005 & 2006 Women’s Bowling SWAC Championship (ranked #9 in the nation by the NCAA)
•2004 Baseball SWAC Championship/NCAA appearance

Prior to his stint at TSU, “Coach” Jackson was a professional prizefighter from 1989 until retiring in 2001. He bypassed the amateur ranks and began competing on the professional level. He turned heads with an impressive record of 26 wins, 4 losses with 18kos. Achievements during his illustrious boxing career include:
•Texas Cruiserweight Championship Title 1994
•Texas Heavyweight Champion from 1994-2001 (Emeritus)
•World rankings with the WBU (#8), NAFB (#12), WBC (#16), and WBA (#22).

He also made boxing history by fighting for the first-ever WBU World Supercruiserweight Title.

In his 40-year career, Ricky Jackson has worked for the exclusive resort the Houstonian Hotel, headed up the strength-and-conditioning program at Texas Southern University, and even traded blows as a professional prizefighter under the management of Don King. Today, he brings his lifetime of fitness knowledge to his clients during one-on-one training sessions with his business, Ricky Jackson Personal Training Service. He draws from his boxing and athletic training to help his students cut weight, develop their athletic skills, or even recover from injuries

Ricky, the fitness saves my life. The doctors said had I not been in such great shape I may have died. Two cysts and my uterus wall finally ruptured and blood and fluid went into my abdomen and pelvic cavity. Had I not been so fit my body would not have been able to make it. I had emergency surgery and the endometriosis had taken over everything and grown into my spine and pelvic ligaments, colon, and organs. No wonder I was hurting so badly. I have been training with Ricky for a little over 3 years now. When I started with him I was 10 months post-op from having an L5-S1 Anterior Lumbar Fusion (back surgery). For ten years I had issues with my back, throughout my entire 20's I felt like I had the body of an unhealthy 80 year old. I was in pain all the time. I could not exercise or do most things people my age were doing without "paying for it" during the following weeks. I had heard about Ricky from some friends and they all spoke of him very highly. I was very skeptical about training because of my history with back pain, but eventually I was talked into at least giving it a try. The first time I worked out with Ricky, we talked extensively about my concerns and about my surgery. He developed a program to help me strengthen my core to help support my back and lessen the pain. When I started I couldn't run more than a couple of minutes, could barely squat 85 lbs. more than once and was still dealing with back pain. Within 6 months of training with Ricky I was running 2 miles, squatting 225 lbs 10 times and I no longer had back pain 24/7. Due to a new job and hectic travel schedule, I had to take a 10 month hiatus from the gym. However, I've since returned to the gym and part of that decision was due to that "sneaky" back pain I felt returning. Since being back in the gym the last 3 months, I am doing things I never thought possible. I am already up to running 3 miles every workout and I feel great. My strength is also returning rapidly. Training with Ricky was one of the best decisions I ever made, he has changed my life! I have been training with Ricky Jackson for over 10 years. I first started when I began training for the Golden Gloves. My goal was to win my age group in my weight division. Ricky had the unique background of being a former professional world class fighter and a body builder. His skills in both areas helped me accomplish my goal and I won the Houston championship. I have continued to train with Ricky and introduced my 2 daughters who now train with him also. They are both in outstanding shape and capable of being personal trainers themselves. One of my daughters became an ODP level soccer player who now plays Division 1 soccer. I began a workout regime with Ricky Jackson in May of 2009. At that time I didn’t have a real weight issue, however I didn’t have any muscle tone and I could definitely benefit from exercising, if for no other reason than to be healthy. I worked out with Ricky from May of 2009 until approximately August of 2010. When I began the workout program I weighed 142 pounds and I currently weigh 132 pounds. So I lost 10 pounds which I have managed to keep off by continuing to work out on my own at least three times a week, and I have developed muscle tone all over my body. What I have really appreciated from Ricky’s training is that he always made sure you not just worked out for the sake of working out, but he also made sure that you understood each machine you used, what muscle(s) it worked and how it benefited your body. Therefore when I travel (which I do quite often with my job) I can walk into a Fitness Center and know just what to do. I am grateful to him for imparting his knowledge which has helped me to be more conscious of not only the importance of exercising but also the importance of your food intake…your daily diet/food choices.
