More About Coach Richard

Unlike many coaches, I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all style—every boxer has unique skills, body types, and mental approaches, and I tailor my training to bring out the best in each individual.

When I opened Legacy Boxing Gym, I modeled it after Vivero Gym—the birthplace of champions like Errol Spence, Vergil Ortiz, and Maurice Hooker. That gym was built on fundamentals and had an atmosphere of winning, and I’ve worked hard to create the same culture here.

In just the last two years, Legacy has produced:

1 National Champion

3 National Tournament Finalists

4 Boxers ranked in the Top 10 in the USA

At Legacy, we combine solid fundamentals with a winning mindset. Whether your goal is to compete at the highest levels or simply challenge yourself, come train with us—we’ll help you get there.

Retired professional boxer with 40+ years of experience

3x Golden Gloves Champion

4x Silver Gloves Champion

Competed as an amateur up to welterweight; fought professionally in junior welterweight & welterweight divisions

Featured in several televised bouts, including the Cotto vs. Bazan undercard (Las Vegas, 2002)

Faced Dmitriy Salita, who later fought for a world title

I enjoy working with individuals who want to improve themselves and pick up a new skill. A typical session will include conditioning and boxing skill development.

In our first session, I will evaluate your skills and design a program tailored to your goals. Training may include:

Speed bag, heavy bag, and timing bag work

Shadow boxing and mitt drills

Jump rope and body conditioning

Technique development and skill building

My focus is to make you stronger, faster, and better conditioned while helping you build the skills needed to reach your boxing goals.

Client Reviews

Coach Richard is amazing. He really knows the sport of boxing.

Great first session

The gym is great. The one on one training is high quality and I feel I am improving as an athlete and boxer. I would recommend this gym to youth or any age adult who wants to get involved with boxing for fitness or competition. With Coach Rich and Coach Nate either way you are getting the best.

Coach Richard is great at what he does. He made my son Marcos feel welcome right away and taught him some key concepts that he hadn't learned before in his first session. He has a friendly, educational and helpful environment at his gym and I highly recommend him.

Outstanding coach and person

Best coach I've been with, works with you to make you a better athlete, and tells you how it is. No sugar-coating. I will keep coming back.

Great coach, very professional and patient.

I had a great training session with richard. I got a great workout and learned a lot about boxing. Looking forward to the next one!

The session was just what I was looking for. I’m tired of doing the same old gym workouts. This session was a great way to do something different while gaining some boxing skills from a legit coach.

Really excited to work with coach Richard. He was very professional and patient. I really liked the focus on technique but the cardio work was excellent as well. Will definitely come back. Thanks, Coach.

Great coach! Taught me a lot within the first class and had a lot of fun.

Excellent Coach. I would recommend to anyone looking to learn how to box.

Coach Richard is a great Coach and a person! He will make sure to help you with you technique, point out your strengths and weaknesses, and will work with you to improve your skills to the best of his abilities. I’m truly blessed to have him as my Coach, and would recommend to anyone!

Coach Richard was a awesome coach! Working with him was a tremendously gift from god. His training & techniques really gets the job done - definitely a 10 + He’s really a down to earth type of guy... very supportive and gives feedback. He really is a partner in mylife... Thank You so much! Yes, he’s a 5 star coach I truly recommend...

If you're looking to learn real boxing, I highly recommend Coach Rich. Like the other reviews said, he really is patient so don't be afraid to ask if you don't understand something which really puts a beginner female like me at ease. Not only are his sessions a good workout but it also teaches self defense since he teaches proper techniques on how to block and throw punches and I'm sure if you wanted to fight in competitions, he'll get you up there.

Coach Richard is one of the best coaches I’ve ever had. He is very good at emailing and contacting his clients back. Moving here from Boston has been very hard for me. And boxing is one of the things I missed doing everyday. I found coach Richard through my coach up account and emailed him. Although I hesitated a bit, I reached out to him anyway. Within a couple of hours he emailed me back and I immediately knew he was the coach for me. He is beyond knowledgeable about the sport of boxing. He motivates and inspires me to push myself but he doesn’t push too far. He takes the time and puts his clients through a circuit to see your intensity level. He is very professional and tough but he also shows compassion. He doesn’t put you down or make you feel bad about yourself when you need to cancel. He understands the importance of resting your body. I would recommend coach Richard to everyone who has a passion for boxing as a professional or someone who just wants to stay in shape. If you are thinking about taking up boxing, coach Richard is the guy for you. Even if you have doubts or are unsure if boxing is for you, give it a try. You won’t be disappointed!!

Coach Richard was great!. He clearly knows the sport and he is a very patient coach , easy to learn from. I got a good assessment and i practiced some of the basics things - rope , mitts and bag - . I recommend everyone to sign up for a lesson with him!

Coach Richard is a great coach. I’m not your average boxing type. I’m your average grandma type 😂 I’ve never sweat so much and never felt so good about a workout. I love that it is all about really learning how to box and I’m so glad I didn’t end up in a health club taking “kickboxing” classes with my daughters. Coach Richard is the real deal.

Highly recommend

Coach Richard was an outstanding coach! He shows the proper techniques, and is really easy to learn from, from how he explains drills! I recommend everyone to sign up for a lesson with him!

Had a great session with Richard. I've only trained once with Richard but he explained all the minor details of boxing and was really patient through out the session. I would highly recommend Richard to any newbie like myself looking to learn the sport of boxing.
