More About Coach Nicholas
Entering my 5th year as Garinger Track and Field coach {2nd as boys head coach}. So far in my years of coaching, I've yet to take a team to the NCHSAA State Track & Field Championships but I'm definitely trying to build a program. I range from coaching sprints (200,400,300 hurdles) to middle distance (800,1600) to field events (LJ, TJ, HJ). My specialties are the 800 & HJ so any chance I get to work with an athlete who does those events, it's an honor
After high school, I attended Western Carolina University for a year and then transferred to Claflin University in South Carolina. There I became an All Conference Athlete in the SIAC Conference my last year of competing which was also the first year of our school competing as a Division II school. My list of honors and awards are:
College :
First Team All Conference HJ - 09'
Second Team All Conference 800 - 09'
Most All Around Athlete - 07' 08' 09'
Most Improved - 07'
Senior Award - 09'
School Record Decathlon - 5402 (first time ever)
High School:
NC High Jump State Champion 03'
Observer Athlete of the Year 03'
6x All Conference (3 Cross Country/3 Track and Field)
AAU Team Nationals HJ Champion - 04' (6'9)
Personal best are:
1:55.7 800 meter run
6'10 high jump
45'7 triple jump
48.5 400 meter run
21'5 long jump
I also ran on the 4x400 meter relay and 4x800 meter relay
Expect to get the best of me and I expect the same from you. If I'm giving 110% I want the same amount of effort in return. Depending on what event you do or want to focus on is how we'll plan from there. First and foremost, we'll always warm up. From there we will do dynamic stretching. Sled pulls (depending on the age), resistance training, hill runs, tempo runs and fartleks
