More About Coach Molly

I started training in dance at the age of 10. I have worked with students ages 3 to college level and adults. Most of my work has been in a studio setting, but have worked in a school setting with students of special needs. I teach a range of dance styles including ballet, modern, jazz and tap. I work in Chicago and near by suburbs. I am also working towards my Cecchetti Grade I teacher certification. Not only do I train for technique, but I work as a choreographer for youth dance companies and individuals specific requests.

I graduated from Columbia College Chicago Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Dance Pedagogy and Performance. I have worked with many Chicago based and nationally known choreographers including Maggie Bouffard, Lisa Gonzales, Emily Stein, Paige Cunningham, Tina Marie Custer, Fara Tolno among others. I have also worked with recognized dance teachers including Dardi McGinley-Gallican and Jen Grisham-Dobbs. Additionally I studied technique and choreography under Liz Burritt, Allen Desterhaft, Christina Gonzalez-Gillett, Kim Goldman, Jeff Hancock, Carrie Hansen, Taisha Paggett, Natalie Rast, Joanna Rosenthal, Yael Levitin Saban, Sarah Shafer, Michael Snipe Emily Stein and Richard Woodbury. Currently, I am working for a Chicago based modern dance company, The Leopold Group.

A typical session depends on the clients wants and needs. However, I would always recommend taking a client through a structured class. For example, if a client is interested in working on ballet technique, the session would begin with Barre exercises and stretches to properly warm up the body and work target muscles. The session would continue with some exercises for developing skills and strength like abdominal work, leg exercises and other areas that need to be strengthened. The lesson will continue with technique exercises including adagio, pirouettes, petite allegro and grand allegro.

Client Reviews

Molly brings a great energy to class everyday that is not only infectious but something I aspire to have as well. With some of my experiences with other student teachers, I hear what they are asking of me and my body but I cannot always clearly see and understand it in their own bodies and therefore have a harder time discovering the movements myself. Molly has consistently been a great example and often by watching her demonstrate I can see, understand and aspire to find the movement in my own self. As a student, I find the teachers I learn the most from are the ones who can relate ideas and concepts in a way that help me to make a mental image or imagine a setting in which I can understand the movement better. I think Molly is exceptional at this. I always find her analogies, metaphors and ways of relating movement to be helpful and fun. I find myself laughing and loosening up and at the end of the class thinking that I learned something new and had a great time doing it. I can truly say that I have learned a lot from Molly. I trust and respect every correction and suggestion she gives me and I believe she has helped me to improve this semester. I can honestly say that I am disappointed to not be able to have her as a student teacher next semester. I imagine that it can be somewhat intimidating and unnerving to be a student teacher and ask a group of your peers to see you as an instructor instead of a fellow student. I think that Molly was easily able to do so as she has a great understanding of her own body and technique and is someone whom I, as a new student, can look up to.
