More About Coach Mike
My first real coaching job was 2001-2003 as a hitting and catching coach at Viterbo University in La Crosse WI. This opportunity took my baseball mind past just playing and focusing on myself to focusing on other’s improvement. This helped me learn to improve players with different styles or approaches than mine. While we did a lot on the physical part of the game, I focused on what hitters have going on in their head while at the plate as well as their bodies. This position also gave me perspective on what college players and coaches need to do to be successful and what younger players need to look like to get to that level.
Work got in the way of spending the amount of time that a college programs requires; but I continued to play amateur baseball in the summers and took a larger role in helping our college age players develop into great offensive players. Helping my teammates with mental ques while hitting and how our mind needs to be working is something that was easy to do and helped teammates that were still playing collegiately.
Once I stopped playing after in 2011, I could then focus on my kid's development as players. Coaching baseball and football at the youth level has been a great experience. I have coached and assisted teams from T Ball to 14U, been on evaluation committees, directed tournaments and been on the youth board. Working with kids from ages 5 to 18 has given me great insight into how kids mature, what expectations should be at each age level, the base of skills a player needs to build on as they grow older and some insight into ways to help a young player enjoy the game and keep playing.
I am now entering my third year as JV coach for Holmen High School. This involves working with players ranging from ages 14 to 18- depending on the time of the season. At the Freshman/Sophomore level, I work with all positions as well as all facets of offense.

I went to Galt High School in Galt CA. I was a two-sport athlete, Football and Baseball. I was an all League selection my Senior year and part of a fantastic Sectional Runner up team. In College, I continued to play both sports at the DIII level for Central College in Pella, Iowa for 3 out of my 4 years. After College I enjoyed playing amateur Baseball in leagues in Minnesota and Wisconsin. My team in the La Crosse area won state WBA championships in 2001 and 2006. I hung up my own spikes in 2011 to spend time on my kid's sports.
Depending on whether we are working on offense or defense, we will then go over some drills (Mental and Physical) we will use, why we use them and what the drill is supposed to accomplish. I hope to have the player and parent understand why we are doing a drill and how it helps reach our goals. Each session will end with a review of what we worked on, successes and give some points to work on outside of lessons.

Coach Mike is a knowledgeable coach and is a clear communicator. He is very patient. His baseball experience shows throughout the time he works with you. There are various techniques taught that are refreshing to see. We have busy schedules so getting a session scheduled can take a while but well worth the wait.
