More About Coach Michael

Started coaching youth leagues when I was in High school. Coached U9 boys lacrosse for 3 seasons

Helped with local high schools for 2 years after college and realized it was too hard to really develop players when coaching an entire team. That is when I decided that spending more time with individual players helps them develop all skills.

I started Rival Lacrosse training individuals and small groups 7 years ago. I have had multiple kids make their travel teams, make varsity high school, and get offers and scholarships to D3, D2, and D1 schools.

High School- VA All American, All Northern Region 2 years, All Patriot District 3 years. Set scoring record at hayfield Secondary from 2000-2004
College- D2 Wingate University Midfielder/Attack. Multiple DSC player of the week from 2004-2009. Won conference championship in 2007. 2 time Captain and Iron Man recipient.
Post Collegiate- MLL Practice squad after college. Still continue to play in a very competitive post collegiate DMV league and summer tournaments with Team Easton and Team Lacrosse Playground

Operate in 1 hour sessions geared toward the goals of each player. I make a plan for each kid based on skill level, position, and physical condition.

1. Start with dynamic warmup and light stretch
2. Quick rerun through previous session skills and answer any questions
3. Short and specific drills to recreate the flow of a lacrosse game. Rest, Sprint, Slowdown, Sprint, Rest
4. We usually work on a specific drill or skill for 20 minutes to allow 3 different drills at least to engage but not exhaust them mentally or physically. This can be shooting, passing, ground balls, defense, off ball D and O, clearing, etc...
5. Cool down and review

As a private coach I always try and catch at least 1-2 games a week of my players to see what skills are being developed faster than others and to focus our training on what I actually see on the field.

Client Reviews

Coach Michael is great teacher of the game. We plan to work with him throughout the summer fall and winter to prepare for the high school season.

Very knowledgeable and dedicated. My son loves training with Coach Mike!

Great coach, high level of knowledge and showed great care in making the player better.

My son has had a great experience learning skills to getvready to play i high school. Coach Mike is great!

S(12) enjoyed his practice today. I really like how there was a lesson plan and expertise in player development. We look forward to another session!

Coach Michael was great with my son and talked with to understand my sons goals and helped him understand how break down his game and how my son should be self evaluating and using that to engage with coach Michael.

Michael connected well with the girls and it was a dynamic lesson.

We're been working with Coach Mike for a while now, and he's been great at teaching the fundamentals, as well as how to apply them in realistic, in-game situations. He's an experienced player, and it shows by the way he can relate the skills he teaches to the application. Mike has helped my son accelerate his kill development.

Coach Mike has a thorough understanding and love of the game which comes through in how he teaches it. He has done a great job with my son whose skills are rapidly advancing with each lesson. His lessons are focused and make excellent use of the session time.

Coach Michael was an excellent coach! My kids have never played lacrosse, but he was patient and encouraging as he explained the basics of the game and taught them stick skills. He would demonstrate and explain in detail the proper technique. He showed them different drills to practice at home. It is clear that Coach Michael has a lot of experience as a lacrosse player and coach. We will definitely continue private coaching sessions with him!

We loved our first session with Coach Michael and we look forward to working with him regularly this Spring! Very knowledgeable and super nice.

Coach Michael has been terrific in working with my son in all aspects of the game. As a late-comer to the game after needing to shift from his primary sport due to injury, it has been great to see Michael start to build my son up and work with him on everything from stickwork and other fundamentals to mental approaches to the game and position strategy. It’s clear Michael both knows the game extremely well and, more importantly, is extremely good at teaching it.

Michael connected with my son immediately and I have already seen a difference after just two sessions. He has a great gift for teaching not just the how but the why. I feel like my son has learned more in two hours than he did in a whole season in rec league. I highly recommend Michael and look forward to working with him throughout this whole Spring season.

Coach Michael packed a lot in one hour and worked on the elements that my son needed before his lacrosse tryouts. He is very relatable and answered all of my son’s questions. He uses his experience to tailor the sessions. We highly recommend him.

You did a great work

Michael was great. He assessed my son and gave him some great information that he used very effectively the very next game. Great lesson.

After my son’s practice he said he learned more in one session with Coach Bayliss then a whole season of high school lacrosse. Very happy with the experience

Coach Michael has been great for my high school lacrosse player. His knowledge and teaching skills have improved my son's lacrosse IQ after only a few sessions, and his positive attitude makes each session a positive experience.

Coach Mike was awesome. My son Jack learned so much over 3 extended sessions and even more important - he is really motivated. I highly recommend Mike to train your kids.

Coach Michael is a great coach! After one session, the game has came back to me. He's skillful, observant, and shows interest and effort when coaching!

Coach Michael is able to challenge my son who's been playing lacrosse for six years. That's saying something!

Simply put Mike made our 8 year old son love Lacrosse so much he would not only spend an hour training, but would come home and either talk about lacrosse or keep playing in the yard. His improvement and knowledge is mind blowing compared to his youth leagues where I feel they just go out and run around for a few hours.
It was amazing to not only see the difference on the field but also in the passions Josh exhibited for lacrosse after training. Mike would come to his high school games during the week and talk to Josh between quarters based on what he saw. It was like a personal trainer and sideline coach for Josh. He not only made his skills better but he motivated my Josh to keep getting better while having fun
