More About Coach Michael

I have experience coaching clients in all aspects related to running and racing. These include running form, nutrition, heart rate zones, and numerous types of exercise testing. I also hold a B.S in Kinesiology from Temple University with a specific specialty in Aerobic metabolism and endurance sports nutrition. Every marathon, triathlon, and distance training program I have written, was created using both old-school techniques and cutting-edge science.

I have over 10 years of competitive running experience at all distances ranging from 800m to the marathon. In 2018 I met the qualifying standard for both the Boston and Chicago Marathon and have run many races on a variety of terrains. From 2009 to 2011 I was a Mid Atlantic Conference Track & Field athlete at the distance of 1600m. In 2017 I placed in the top 1% in the largest 10-mile race in the country and landed on the podium for my age group in the HITS Olympic distance triathlon series. In 2019 I qualified for the Olympic Distance National Championships for Triathlon.

At our first meeting, I aim to assess the runner in a holistic manner. I will evaluate their goals both long term and short term, as well as their desired race distance, experience level, race nutrition, or any preexisting injuries. From that point, I can begin to design a specific training program for the runner. I offer the option to assess the runner's form, mechanics, and cadence ensuring that any adjustments in form or mechanics will be made slowly as to avoid injury. I will also provide race-specific training plans and workouts based on their desired distance. These workouts will range from standard aerobic base building to marathon pace training, lactate threshold training, repetition training, plyometrics, and VO2 max work. A typical session on nutrition will include testing supplements during workouts and finding the perfect race nutrition for each individual runner.

Client Reviews

Great coach, very personable, listens to concerns and has an excellent fund of knowledge. His suggestions after only 1 session have already made a difference in my running routine.

Michael possesses a likeable demeanor combined with a strong work ethic, exemplified by his time at Temple University and The Citadel, Military College of South Carolina. His maturity, sense of duty, and ability to problem solve is surprising for an individual of his age. He is always ready to roll his sleeves up and perform any duties necessary to get the job done.
Coach Michael is super passionate about the sport of running and it truly shows through the way he treats his athletes. While improving my performance was one of his biggest focuses, my health and well being always took priority. His knowledge of physiology and how to structure training was impressive, to say the least. He is not only an awesome coach but an impressive athlete. I'm happy to have had the opportunity to work with him!
Before meeting Michael, I used to be the type of a runner who gets injured whenever mileage or intensity was increased. At some point, my orthopedist suggested me just quit running... That was when I decided to find a running coach. When I started my sessions with Michael, I was so impressed by how knowledgeable he was. He created a perfect running schedule for me, based on my goals, fitness level and lifestyle. Michael showed me how I could strengthen and support my muscles to prevent injuries, and I was able to handle drastically increased mileage and intensity without getting any tendonitis, fasciitis, or any other injuries. My fitness level has improved significantly, and in just a matter of a few weeks, I became faster. Michael pushes me during speed-work, but he's very cautious and attentive to my response and how my body feels during a workout. Michael knows a lot about how the human body functions and he gave me a lot of valuable advice on nutrition and how different food and eating habits influence performance.
