More About Coach Melissa

I have experience coaching athletes of all ages and skill levels through Pivot Point Basketball under the leadership of Justine Hartman. Throughout my coaching career, I have worked with collegiate athletes, high school players, adults, and youth athletes ranging from kindergarten through 6th grade. My responsibilities have included individual skill development, team training sessions, and basketball clinics focused on fundamentals, confidence, and game IQ. I have also helped run basketball clinics in partnership with San Diego State University, providing instruction in shooting, ball handling, defense, and overall player development. My goal as a coach is to create a positive environment where athletes can improve their skills, build confidence, and develop a strong work ethic both on and off the court.

My basketball journey includes competing at the collegiate and international levels through years of dedication and hard work. I played two years of Division I basketball at San Diego State University and earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). I completed my collegiate career at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB), where I continued to develop my game and leadership skills. Following college, I had the opportunity to play professionally in Spain, gaining valuable international playing experience and exposure to different styles of competition. Prior to college, I was a four-year varsity basketball player at Stockdale High School. My experiences as a high-level athlete have given me a deep understanding of skill development, teamwork, discipline, and the mindset required to succeed on and off the court.

My training sessions are designed to help athletes build confidence and improve game-ready skills. Every session begins with a dynamic warm-up and stretching routine to prepare the body and prevent injury. From there, I focus heavily on guard development, including ball-handling, footwork, shooting mechanics, and game-speed decision-making. Athletes can expect drills that emphasize proper technique, repetition, and attention to detail while also challenging them to perform under pressure. Conditioning is incorporated throughout the workout to improve endurance and mental toughness. I tailor each session to the athlete’s age, skill level, and goals, ensuring they leave each workout stronger, more skilled, and more confident than when they arrived.
