More About Coach McKenna
I coached both the u16 & u19 teams at the North American Hockey Academy during the 2021-2022 season. I also coached at the Rivers Prep School during the 2022-2023 season. Typically in a team setting, I have coached mostly girls in high school, but also have experience coaching skills for kids ranging in age from 5-14. This past fall I helped coach town skills for several youth organizations in the Boston area. I also have experience covering private lessons for a handful of skills coaches in the area.
I played college hockey at Northeastern University from 2014-2018. I was an assistant captain my senior year and helped lead our team to the program's first Hockey East Championship in 2018. After college, I played professionally for the Boston Pride from 2018-2023. I was an assistant captain on the team from 2020-2023, and helped lead the team to two Isobel Cup Championships in 2021 and 2022.
I would typically start with some sort of skating specific techniques. I believe skating is one of the most important part aspects of hockey. After some skating, I would get into more skill related drills related to an area the athlete wants to work on improving. I want the sessions to be focused on what the client wants to work on and provide drills that fit what they are looking for.
