More About Coach Maurice
M.D. Stringfellow Track & Field Coaching Bio
Track & Field,
I am I decided to give back to the community by coaching and mentoring youth sports with an emphasis in track & field. In 2001-2012 I aligned myself with Track Houston, specifically with the youth (13-14), intermediate (15-16), & senior (17-18) boys, in sprints, hurdles, jumps & relays. My coaching philosophy aligned well with Track Houston’s, no working relationship is perfect, but our theories matched well enough to all for the development of the athletes. I have learned to explore the different track & field paths while I competed. My coaching style is to implement a can do spirit in the athletes I coach. I am a hands coach with a very keen eye for detail. I have coached and trained many elite developmental, AAU & USATF Jr Olympic athletes in the Houston & Chicago areas over the last 15 years. My coaching goals for my athletes are we strive for perfection together. This mechanism sets the stage for the athletes to gain knowledge it infuses a practical& technical about the event they are competing in. I have created an open dialogue of we can talk openly in our training sessions.
As a coach I consider many factors in training my athletes one factor that sticks out to me is the socio-economic climate and the plight of disadvantage-underprivileged athletes. Some of the athletes I coach believe that being involved in an athletic program is the only way out. As a coach I as well as others harp, preach and speak passionately about the value of an education and all the benefits of advanced education. It seems to me that the youth of today look at advanced education as a type of stigma or a disease. I am from the inner city of Chicago, I have witnessed the excellence of the American education system, and achievement and hard work start from grade school all the way through college.
As a track & field coach my aspirations if to instill in the athletes I align myself with is nothing can be accomplished without focus, desire & discipline. I encourage the philosophy of ”Each one teach one”. Hall a fame baseball player Dave Winfield once said, “Young athletes never remember their teachers but always remember their coach’s name and lessons they teach”. I have employed the latest athletic training techniques used to assist developmental and elite athletes to excel in the physical & mental aspects of track & field. I have broken away from old ineffective track & field training methods, in developing my coaching philosophy. I have put athlete first this formula sets the stage for more effective training sessions. Developmental & elite athletes of all ages need specific regiments and routines with an emphasis on physical conditioning, strength, power & then the development of all the speed aspects of track & field. The next emphasis is the mental approach of the job at hand while on the track, self-actualization, and clarity of thought play a major role to getting the athlete to focus. I have now learned in my 15 years of coaching to stand back and observe, talk quietly, watch intently, be compassionate, be critical at the right times & bring that technical knowhow to every practice, while we game plan for each meet my athletes will compete in for the season.
What I receive from coaching is the satisfactions of assisting athletes to develop a working life philosophy on and off track. Ethics is the biggest part of an athlete’s character. I believe that developmental & elite athletes after they leave our sport will start to play a more valuable role. I believe that this role could be as training coaches that have the experience and practical know how of the essential elements of track & field.

Session Plan
I start my session with 3/4 speed warm up laps (2), to get the heart rate up, followed by a dynamic stretching routine with emphasis of the quads, hams, adductors, abductors, and IT band and flexors. Then we do a series of field and technique drills. I have a conversation with my athletes this is where I get their attention pertaining to the workout. We execute the workout plan for that day, followed by a barefoot walk, ab work and some technique work i.e. arm drives. We have a mini conversation about that life in general, or a fir bit about eating, hydration etc., then we wrap it up for the day. I never leave without saying good bye to each athlete by name that's present.
Here is one of the workouts I did with one of my jumpers) all people I have a full workout including warmup sent to them via email prior to the meeting sessions.

Coach Maurice was an amazing coach to Valerie. He helped her worked on her sprinting form and hurdles. She learned the basic techniques on the long jump and boost her confidence. Overall, great experience and highly recommend.
Regina (CoachUp client)
Coach String has been great in my high school daughters progress with her Jumps. She was strictly a triple jumper but recently participated in the long jump with confidence after just 3 sessions. Coach String is working to build her core, speed and technic with her jumps.

Coach Maurice is a one of a kind coach that definitely makes sure that you leave his sessions understanding the techniques required for better results at my daughter’s track meets. She leaves every session feeling as though she’s had a full workout and is always ready for the next track meet. Her jump improved after one session and we look forward to continued success.

My 15 year old daughter was new to track but a gifted athlete who plays elite soccer. Maurice helped her to learn the correct form and explained the physics behind it. She also practice off starter blocks which was her biggest challenge. Maurice was very patient with all of the questions that my daughter had (she is a perfectionist).
With the help of Maurice, she helped her team win 2017 TAPPS 6A Track & Field State Championships.
Julie (CoachUp client)
Coach Maurice was a great coach! He really broke down the skills which my daughter needs to improve into incremental steps that she can master individually for improvement. He also was very intuitive and was able to "read" my daughter's biggest obstacle to improving her high jump -- her over thinking of the mechanics. We will be signing up for more sessions with Coach Maurice.

Kellian (CoachUp client)
Coach Maurice has assisted Kristen by helping her understand the importance and connection of the workout drills and events that she participates in. She is very analytical, and he helps her reflect through video observations and by modeling drills with her on the different phases of her events. Thus, I have seen her confidence increase as of the results of our sessions.
Karla (CoachUp client)
After 3 sessions Coach Maurice has taken the time to study my sons strengths and weaknesses and catered a very effective training regiment that I know will help my son be success at the next level. I highly recommend Coach Maurice if you want you child to be more competitive and successful, Coach Maurice can help your child get there.
Shirley Moore (Testimonial)
Coach Stringfellow, Has been a catalyst in my Grandson Christian athletic career, Coach Stringfellow has worked with Christian on his athleticism. Christian does not want run track (although I believe he should). Christian is a serious high school basketball player who usually spends his summer playing on traveling AAU teams of basketball summer camps. This summer Christian decided he wanted to learn how to box as part of his overall fitness training. I can say that Coach Stringfellow influence in Christian fitness training has put him on another athletic level. Christian who is quite leader now wants to step up and share some of his training with his fellow High School & AAU Basketball teammates. Shirley Moore
Dawn D. (Testimonial)
Coach Stringfellow, is making a difference in my daughters lives 11 year old Dawn and 9 my year old Danielle are budding track athletes. Coach Stringfellow has put them on the path to physical fitness and healthy eating. In our brief training sessions he has given the girls small tips on running, jumping and throwing. He has set a training path for them to start competing in spring 2016. His no pressure approach is refreshing.
Patrice W. (Testimonial)
I was blessed to have Coach Stringfellow as my Jumps Coach in my youth days with Track Houston. I went on to compete at Saint Gregory's University my freshman year. Eight months ago I had a baby girl and transferred to Jarvis Christian College where we did not have a coach. I still have passion for jumping so much I continued to try to compete. I have been searching and searching for Coach Stringfellow because he was one of the ONLY jump coaches that I admired and never will forget and I seek your help in progressing further in Long Jump.
