More About Coach Maurice
I have coached athletes in numerous sports for over 15 years, primarily on an individual basis. However, running is my specialty.
My runners have ranged from first timers looking to effectively start a regular training routine to experienced competitive athletes interested in improving their overall performance. I have owned and operated Your Personal Best, a private training facility, since 2003. Prior to that I trained clients out of the Burlington YMCA. I am certified as both a Personal Trainer and a Medical Exercise Specialist by the American Council on Exercise (one of their highest certifications). One of my greatest honors was to lead a running performance clinic for Navy Seal candidates in 2006.
In college I competed in the NAIA National Championships(1987). Since then I have continued to run competitively in distances ranging from 5K to marathon, typically making the podium for my age group in all races. My highlights include a top 10% overall finish in the 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, and 2011 Boston Marathon as well as top 5% overall finish in the 2008 NYC Marathon. Additionally, I set a marathon personal record at the age of 46. My goal is to continue to further improve and challenge the standards for age related decline in performance in the marathon and athletics as a whole.
I believe in practicing periodization, focusing on different areas of fitness/conditioning within the training year. For example, the emphasis in the winter(off season) would be building a base level of endurance before transitioning into the pre-season and competitive seasons in which the emphasis would be on speed (VO2 max and lactate threshold) as well as endurance maintenance. I also believe that strength training is esssential for all athletes, as such, I practice the SAID principle(Specific Adaptations to Imposed Demands) in which exercises are done to simulate the demands running places upon the body.
As a Medical Exercise Specialist I place a heavy emphasis on proper form and technique and ensuring there are no strength imbalances.

Lori Canney (Testimonial)
As a result of working with Moe I have never felt as comfortable or prepared for a marathon. I shaved 24 minutes off my PR and I qualified for Boston.
