More About Coach Matthew
I have worked as an instructor for basketball and baseball camps for elementary students. I am very good at helping young athletes learn the game and teaching them why it is importing to do certain things on the field/court. Because I am a nonprofit director of a children’s ministry, I work alongside children often and am able to connect with them well. I want to see young athletes get the most out of their abilities. I have not been employed as a coach or trainer before and I do not have any industry certifications, but I played baseball at a high level (Division 1) and excelled in the weight room and in conditioning drills.
I was a 3-sport athlete in high school and went to Southeast Missouri State University to play Division 1 baseball in college. While there, our team won its conference championship 3 consecutive years. I was recruited as a 2-way player but chose to focus on pitching only. I was, however, among the best athletes on the team in terms of speed/strength/agility/explosiveness, and I enjoyed our weightlifting and conditioning sessions. I won the Jewel Award at the university for the highest GPA for a graduating student athlete, displaying a strong ability to focus on both academics and athletics at the same time.
My goal is to help young athletes get ahead of their peers early on by preparing them with specific drills to enhance their athleticism and a knowledge of the game (specifically in baseball or basketball) that will help give them a head start on their athletic career. I would focus on agility drills that increase speed, quickness, spring, reaction time, changing directions, and both acceleration and deceleration. During moments of rest we would focus on the cerebral aspect of the sport my client is training for. My plan is to have fun group sessions of younger kids looking to get better in their sport. I welcome parents to join in on our sessions and have fun with the kids if they want. I will provide parents with a detailed package of all the drills we run in each session so they can carry on the training if they would like after our sessions are over.
