More About Coach Matthew

I have been teaching Martial arts, specifically Aikido for the past 9 years. I have worked with both adults as old as 65 and children as young as 5 with more adults recently. I still currently practice in Alameda, CA and hold a second degree black belt. I usually teach at least once a month to a class of 15-20 in Alameda. I also have done some MMA working on striking with boxing skills and ground joint locks. I also have a good knife fighting background with balisong knives as well as just regular tactical knives. I am also able to teach the martial art of Iaido, which is Japanese sword work. I have also taught numerous women's self defense courses over the past 5 years.

My martial art is non competitive and mainly for personal enjoyment. There are no competitions for this martial art. However, I have sparred many times with friends that have won medals at jiu jitsu competitions all over the bay area and beaten them in our sparring sessions.

In the session, it all depends on what you want to focus on. But with all my sessions, we will first start with a brief warm up while stretching out and some basic strengthening exercises. From there, we will move on to the specific art you wish to focus on and start with footwork exercises. After mastering footwork, we will incorporate the handwork as well. From here we can work on striking and ground work along with all of the different ways to take someone down.

Coach Matthew was great. My son didn't have any basketball experience and by the time their fist session was done, I've seen great improvements already. Will definitely be booking more sessions with Coach Matthew. He also provides a great assesment of my son's skills and needs.

Great coach!

Really great coach! My dribbling is already much, much better. I like everything he's been teaching me about footwork.

It was great working with Coach Matthew. We covered a lot of areas in basketball all in one workout and he provided me with great feedback, also drills I could do on my own. I learned new defensive techniques working with Coach and he provided me himself with defensive pressure on some drills to make it more game-like, just what I needed! I recommend Coach Matthew to anyone who wants to take their game to the next level. I look forward to are next sessions and can't wait to see how far my game can get!
