My name is Matthew Huckabee and I have 8 years experience coaching the shotput and the discus throw. I’ve coached throwers on 3 different levels. The middle school, High school , and Collegiate level. I volunteered at my old High-school and I coached at Wilmington University as well as Lincoln University. I’ve also been a private coach for as many as 7 clients in the past year . I also coach the jav throw .

In the Hs level I threw 61 feet in the shotput and 185 in the discus . I am one of 7 people in the south Jersey area that has throwing 60ft and 180ft. I also hold the school record in both events. In my Junior year of Hs I one the Penn relay event in the discus with a throw of 182’11. In college I threw 57ft in the shot and 171 ft in discus . I hold both records at my college and I’ve been to D2 nationals 3 times.

A typical session with me would be spending a hour on each event. We will be doing a lot of drills and a lot of throwing . I still throw, so I like to not only show you the drills, but visually watch my athletes watch me throw. At the end of the day we all have goals we want to achieve but we are also human. I try to include daily conversations to get to know my athlete and understand the goals they have for themselves with throwing and outside of throwing. I also love to give mental tips because mentally throwing can be tough on any throwers.
