More About Coach Matthew

I have been training a very unique style since the age of 14 and have been coaching this style very successfully since 2010. Before beginning this style, I was a naturally athletic person plagued by injury. Tearing my rectus femoris (a muscle of the quadriceps group) and spraining my ankles several times severely affected my performance. I was not able to stay on the field of play, and therefore could not hone my skills in Football, Baseball, or Hockey. After finding Marc Hordon and working with him for just about 3 months, I stepped back onto the football field and dominated my competition on every front. Standing 5' 11" and weighing 175lbs, moving 330lb men across from me and jumping with and tackling 6' 4' receivers should have been a challenge, but after learning how to engage appropriate musculature and maintain posture in stressful situations, I found myself getting bored with the low level of competition in Massachusetts.

Very soon after, I worked my way into a school in the New England Prep School Athletic Conference, started for two years on the varsity football team, captaining my senior year, and without injury since training in my current style. Since graduating high school, I have matriculated to Northeastern University, where I am pursuing a doctoral degree in Physical Therapy. I have worked with and currently work with football, baseball, lacrosse, MMA, dance, parkour, basketball, volleyball, and soccer athletes as well as general clientele from ages 2 to 80 looking to get in shape for the beach, become a better recreational, high school, college, or professional athlete, or return from injury to a comfortable, pain free life.

I and my coaching team work very diligently to ensure that every athlete (and yes, if you have opposable thumbs, you are considered an athlete) is trained specifically for their sport or favorite activity, rather than arbitrarily made stronger, and that each and every person that steps through our door is properly recovered from injury and/or resistant to common, preventable injuries. I love what I do. I have no preference regarding who I work with, and in fact enjoy the challenge of satisfying a wide range of needs. With some athletes, I need to start from scratch, and with others, there is a very good baseline. Regardless of that, however, I and my team demand perfection in the intricacies of movement before we even consider how much weight you can move, how high you can jump, or how fast you can run. We want each athlete to concern themselves with trusting the direction from our highly trained and qualified professionals so that they can stay on their respective field of play and not on the sidelines. If you are ready to accept the challenge, contact me immediately!

Outstanding defensive back award at Matignon High School. Voted Captain of both Varsity Baseball and Varsity Football at Matignon High School before transferring to Phillips Academy Andover for 11th and 12th grade. Appointed Varsity Football captain at Phillips Academy by the coaching staff senior year.
Coached and trained a Massachusetts High School football team from December of 2011 until July of 2012, who went on to a 7-0 healthy start with no injuries, after only winning 4 games in the previous 4 seasons.
Re-educated a post-op back surgery Football player to league dominance at Bates college his senior year after not playing his Junior year. He was also the recipient of our community service scholarship and is graduating from Bates early.

The first session at HordoN HEALTH and the Boston Sports Institutes always consists of a complete body assessment and development of a unique prescription for that specific athlete. Unless the athlete can perform everything with perfect body mechanics and has no prior injury or range of motion limitations (which has never, ever happened), we do not allow that athlete to move any weight but their own body. Until they can understand how to move their own body in space properly, they are actively making themselves a worse athlete and fostering injurious habits when they lift weights or use any resistance outside of their bodies and gravity. Generally, our athletes will be taken through extensive trunk training, athletic yoga (yes, it is different), hip and shoulder mobility and re-education, and general physical preparation (understood as cardiovascular conditioning) before being introduced to resistance training.
