More About Coach Matthew

I became a certified personal trainer (AAAI/ISMA) in 2011 and have been training clients ever since then. I can say yes, I did get the certification but I learned the most from working at a gym for 5 years and spending 3 years working out and shadowing one of the best personal trainers in the area. In 2012, I started as a volunteer basketball and strength and conditioning coach for a local high school's varsity program. My second year of coaching I spent at a DII college as the Director of Sports Performance for the Women's basketball team. Since then I have spent two years coaching high school basketball and performing strength and conditioning duties for the entire basketball program. Last year, I was recommended to join the coaching staff for the cross country team at the high school.

I look forward to continuing to work with and mentoring the youth and our future leaders for many years to come. It's important that an athlete knows that life is not all about his or her athletics and performance on the court, field, or track. The academics and character of a student athlete is something that will carry on long after the athletic career ends. I also look to educate my athletes on diet and working out to carry that with them as they move forward in life and new challenges. I work with all athletes/levels and challenge them to be the best they can be.

- Certified Personal Trainer (AAAI/ISMA) in 2011
- CPR Certified
- First Aid Certified
- Concussion Certified

ORM (One Rep Max) Deadlift 695lbs

In my first year, every member of the entire cross country team finished the 5k under 30 minutes by the end of the season, some cutting down times over 15 minutes over the course of the season. My most successful sports were Basketball and Wrestling but also played Baseball, Football, Soccer, and Ultimate Frisbee.

The first session will consist of an evaluation, where we discuss goals in more detail and lay a baseline of exercises to help to towards your goals. Some of these you could do on your own outside of training with me to expedite your gains and progress towards your goals.

Session Plan
If you can make it to the gym 5 minutes early, I recommend starting on the treadmill, elliptical or bike for about 5 minutes to allow more time for training. We start with a dynamic warm-up to ensure your body is warm and ready to perform to get the most of out the workout. The bulk of the session is a custom workout based on your goals and focus areas to feel and see results within a couple weeks.Towards the end of the session, I normally allow a good 5-10 minutes for static stretching and to discuss some diet tips to help you make those small changes that make a big difference in your progress towards your goals. Some exercises may be repetitive but workout plans will vary so you will never have the same old workout each time you train with me unless you enjoy consistency and the same expectations each workout.

Coach Matt made a huge impression on both me and my son at our first session. He asked for input on my son's strengths and weaknesses as well as the goals my son had for the upcoming basketball season, then tailored the session using this info. The training session was extremely well planned and organized with no wasted time. Coach Matt also provided detailed feedback on my son's game after the session as well as areas to work on between sessions. By the end of the second session, my son had already noticed improvement on his jumper and dribble attack moves. We would highly recommend Coach Matt to anyone serious about improving their game and ready to put in work.

He emphasizes hard work and practice. I. My son's first training session, he did an extensive evaluation on what my son needed to work on the most and developed a plan for skill development customly tailored to meet his current ability level. I highly recommend Coach Matt to other parents and players who want to take their training to the next level and evolve!

Coach Matt is an excellent coach. My son's are ages 7 and 5. He was very engaging with them. He did drills that was challenging for them but not overwhelming. I asked if they liked it and it was a resounding yes. After our experience I'd recommend Coach Matt

Coach Matt did a great job analyzing what my son needed to work on to improve his game and then showing him drills to focus on those things. Did a good job working to his age as well. Followed up afterwards with feedback & drill reminders. Would recommend him.

Matthew is great. My son loves working with him. Keeps him moving and does great drills.

Coach Matt has been awesome so far. Def good with the kids and has solid coaching drills. My son is learning more and more each session and enjoying every minute of it.

Very helpful and will continue with this coach

He has great patience and explain exercises well and pushes me to my limit.

Matt is a good coach! Alex was hoping to find a indoor place for practice but they had first session in a park. Other than that we are happy with the coach!

Very productive and professional

Coach Matt is very knowledgeable, he went into detail about working out including workouts on my own and diet. Coach Matt is easy to contact and makes himself available if I have any questions about workouts or food choices. He always explains why he thinks which option is best for me. In two workouts, I feel an improvement in the areas I want to work on and my confidence level has increased greatly. I enjoyed training with Coach Matt and would recommend him to anyone looking to improve their fitness.

This was my first time working with a personal trainer. I wasn’t sure what to expect and was hoping that coach Matthew and I would work well with one another since it was my first time having help train. I reached out to him because I felt myself slacking in certain areas and figured I could use the help. After reviewing several other trainers; I felt that coach Matthew possessed most of the qualities I was looking for in a coach. The first session we had; coach Matthew introduced me to routines that worked out areas of my body that I had ignored for quite some time. That aspect of his training was well appreciated and also reminded me why I wanted a personal trainer to begin with.

I also had the opportunity to use equipment I've shied away from in the gym when working alone. Matthew also pays close attention to body-form, which is very crucial when it comes to safety and seeing results. I always felt confident with every routine he threw at me. Coach Matthew's workouts have been challenging, but rewarding.

I've also struggled with dieting and after explaining to Matthew my daily diet; the next day I received a message from him requesting that I send him a list of the foods I've eaten that day. (That's not a part of the plan I purchased.) I was shocked that he would go a little out of the way to ensure my goals were being met. Coach Matthew has also given me some basic recipes that would also help me achieve the goals I set for myself. I found his suggestions very helpful because I often struggle with knowing what's ok and what's not. I went into training with coach Matthew not expecting too much, but he has shown me that he does not believe in job titles and will go beyond what his profile says. That's someone I would work with time and time again.

Excellent basketball coach!

Coach Matthew is great! After a few email exchanges about what I was looking to accomplish for my son, Matt came up with a plan that will help him during the Crew (rowing) season and convert to lifting weights during the summer. He spent time on the phone to cover the ice breaker part of the conversation and made to the gym ready to go.

Provided a no excuse workout which needs no equipment at all and will continue to work with at the gym until they develop a solid 7 day routine. Looking forward to him working with my son even more.

Thanks Matt,
Derek

Coach Matthew is great coach for those that want to play big man. Drills are easy to understand and I'd recommend to other young people.

Coach Matt is an excellent teacher. He works with his students every second of the scheduled time. My son has learned many new skills and is excited about using them in his next practice session with the team.

Matt is a great coach, Daniel feels confident, engaged and excited about the sessions with Matt, he had a great experience, Matt quickly established a real connection with Daniel, he identified his current level and adjusted his pace to align with it, this allows Daniel to enjoy the sessions and feel in control of his progress, I am very pleased with Matt's coaching style and so is Daniel.

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Matthew in 2012 when he visited our school as the member of a men’s basketball league using our gym space to play their games. Matthew noticed the quotes and paraphernalia related to the boy’s varsity basketball team around my desk and immediately expressed an interest to help the team. When Matthew was informed of the state mandated requirements to work with our students, such as obtaining clearances, he immediately jumped into action and submitted his paperwork to the office within weeks. In addition, when Matthew was told that the school could not pay him for his services and that his work would be on a volunteer basis, Matthew replied, “That’s fine with me, I just want to help the team.” This is the kind of person Matthew is; community service driven with a purpose and committed. Matthew was hired as a volunteer assistant coach to the boy’s varsity basketball team. He currently serves as the ‘Strength and Conditioning’ Coach and does an outstanding job developing our student-athletes. At the inception of his hiring, Matthew was industrious in introducing several methods to motivate and inspire our students in the classroom, on the basketball court and in their personal healthy lives. To date, he continues to function in this capacity. His leadership is impeccable. One thing I am most impressed with is Matthew’s work ethic. Even though he is a non-paid volunteer, he works at an extremely high level that is unmatched by some of the paid staff. He is responsible, dependable, and accountable. He is always developing ways to improve the program and our student-athletes. Matthew is punctual for staff meetings, games, team meetings and practices. He is dependable, inspirational, and helpful in leading team meetings and loyal to upholding the values of our basketball program and school as well. In addition to being respected by our students, Matthew is well respected by the coaching staff, the school and our parents. He maintains a meaningful relationship not only with me, but the assistant coaching staff as well. Matthew is truly the example of a dedicated and committed staff member and even more so as a person. He is dynamic in his work, intelligent and responsible in meeting all of his obligations, whether it is personal or related to the development of our students. It is a great pleasure having Matthew part of our staff.
