More About Coach Mars
I have had my own instructional training business for 4 years. I played college basketball for Manhattan College and NJIT. I have coached on the high school and college level. I also coach AAU basketball. I work with children and athletes from 3rd grade to the college level.
Mars Mellish was a Division 1 standout at Manhattan College where he made the conference All-Rookie Team while being voted Defensive Player of the year. Mars continued his basketball career at NJIT, earning First Team All-Conference accolades, and led the Conference in scoring and steals his senior year. Following the completion of a master’s degree at NJIT, Mars joined the NJIT coaching staff to help lead the Highlanders to their first CACC title.
Mars was a high school graduate of St. Peters High School in New Brunswick. Recognized as one of the best pure shooters in the state of New Jersey, Mars set the County record for most three pointers in one game (10). He was also an All-State, All-County, and McDonald All-American Honorable Mention while attending St. Peters. He received offers from Minnesota, Xavier, Davidson, and Manhattan before finally decided to stay local and attend Manhattan College.
My job is to focus on how to get the athlete better. So after evaluating, I will come up with recommendations on what he or she needs to work on more or less.
WHAT WE’LL FOCUS ON:
• Ball Handling
• Passing
• Shooting
• Screens
• Resistance Training
• Conditioning

Mars is an excellent coach. Super patient and my son loves going to practice.
Niels (pronounced Niles) (CoachUp client)
Coach Mars made a good first impression. He seemed knowledgeable, and he conducted an evaluation to determine where Niels is skill wise instead of conducting training in pre determined areas of the game. He did well during the session.

As soon as I saw how Coach Mars interacted with my son, I new it was a perfect fit. I observed the first lesson where he evaluated my son. After minutes of following coach Mars's direction on some drills, I could immediately see improvement. I could see a smile of confidence on my son's face. We have already committed to forming a lasting relationship where my son will excel. Thanks Coach Mars.

Being a former high school JV basketball coach and a present high school Varsity Football and Track and Field coach I can say that Coach Mars knows how to get full potential out of an athlete. He knows when it's time to push an athlete during training and when it's time to stop and get his point across. I can identify with his coaching methods.

My son has had one session with Mars, and we can already tell that Coach Mars will provide my son with a high quality coaching experience which will no doubt help my son improve his game and take it to the next level. He was able to quickly identify specific areas for improvement and spent the time talking with us in detail around his assessment and training plan. We will be arranging follow-on sessions in the near term.
Mars Mellish (Testimonial)
Rodney Harris Head Basketball Coach, South River High School. Mars has been working with my middle school and high school kids for sometime now. The thing that Mars brings to the youth that no one else does is that he focuses on getting each kid he works with better at their weaknesses. He takes every aspect of the game and breaks it down at a fundamental level to reach every child he trains. He is a great motivator and leader. He brings more then basketball training to our youth. He teaches them teamwork, dedication, and the fundamental of life that will make them one day successful future leaders. Evan Anslow Marlboro High School Graduate, Student Athlete Over the past couple of years, I have trained with Mars consistently. The knowledge of basketball and the skills he helped me developed were a main reason as to why I made my varsity high school basketball team. Mars is reliable, friendly, and will do anything to help his players improve. I remember when I did not have my driver's license, Mars would come to my town about 25 minutes away to pick me up and drive me back and forth. I not only regard Mars as a basketball trainer, but also as a friend.
