More About Coach Marquis

I started coaching in 2017 as a Head JV Coach and assistant on the Varsity team for Clearfield High School.

While coaching at the high school and finishing my degree I was a Student Assistant for Weber State University Women’s Basketball from 2017-2021.

2021-2022 I elevated to the he Director Of Basketball & Video Operations as well as skill development for all positions.

In 2023-2024 I became the Assistant for University of Alaska Fairbanks Women’s Basketball program where I oversaw the development of the Guard and Wing positions.

I now currently coach at Layton Christian Academy where we won 2023-2024 4A State Championship. I develop the sophomore team and lead skill enhancement for the Varsity team.

I have trained players 3rd grade to Freshman in college. Ranging from Novice skill to intermediate.

I also am the City Director for Pro Skills Basketball Salt Lake City, a Jr. NBA Flagship organization built to empower young athletes through a culture defined by the tenacious pursuit of self-improvement and the genuine desire to motivate players and improve kids' lives.

I am CPR & First Aid Certified
NFHS Coaching Certified

High School Varsity Starter x 4 Years
- Top 10 Scorer in School History
- Top 10 in single season assist

USCAA D-I & DIII Starter at Iowa Wesleyan University

UHSAA 4A State Champion

45-60 min Sessions
- Triple Threat Footwork (5 min)
Fundamental skill work of pivots, footwork, ball positioning and body position

- Ball Handling (10 min)
Two Ball Dribbling for coordination
Dynamic ball handling that emphasizes Change of Pace and Change of Direction, as well as Stop and Go Ability

- Finishing around the basket/Form shooting (20 min)
No matter the emphasis we focus on the footwork and the skill. Finishing around the basket we use different hands and different footworks and stops, primarily focusing on finishing quick or off two-feet.
Shooting is form shooting and shooting on the move with and without the basketball. Focusing on the process of shooting and not just the end result of making the shot.

- Circuit Drills (15-30 min)
This is the end of the workout where we are working at a much faster pace and adding more game scenarios into what the emphasis is that day.
Shooting would be shooting of the dribble or on the move without the ball, learning how to score off screens.
Finishing would be driving and finishing through contact.
