More About Coach Mark

I have spent two seasons coaching javelin at St. John's High School in Shrewsbury, where I coached a group of 6+ to both divisional and state championships. I have also worked with a post-collegiate D1 All-American to 11th place at the female decathlon world championships.

Competed at Northeastern University for 4 years in javelin (4th all-time) and the decathlon. Placed 3rd at the IC4A championships with a throw of 63m (205ft). Multiple-time conference medal winner.

A typical javelin session starts with a period of static and dynamic stretching, followed by picking and other short throws that focus on upper body mechanics and implement flight. Then, depending on what the athlete is looking to focus on in the session, we would generally pivot to further javelin drills, javelin ball throws, medicine ball exercises, or a progression of full throws. I typically like to close most sessions with a medicine ball, or core circuit.

Sessions and plans will be custom-tailored to the athlete's ability and wants. All equipment is provided by myself. I believe in a "walk then run approach" to javelin, we will work through each stage of the throw before
