More About Coach Mark

I have been coaching runners for 6 years in the South Suburbs of Chicago. I have coached individuals for the last 6 years. I also have coached a class at my local health club and coach Track and Cross-Country for a school in the South Suburbs of Chicago. I am USATF Certified Coach

My coaching is based on the principles I have learned from reading the greatest coaches in history (Lydiard, Daniels, Canova, Salazar, Cerutty, etc.), from trial and error on myself and from being coached by Nate Jenkins, Jack Daniels "Run Smart Project" and by Casey Collins and the many tips I've gotten from some very successful runners who've been generous enough to share them with me. I utilize the principals that are common among all these sources and are proven to work.

I enjoy working with all levels of runners but I especially like working with new runners and average runners. I feel as though these runners can learn to love this sport and make it part of a healthy lifestyle and if they are caught before learning improper training techniques they can avoid much of the injury, illness and stagnation that I endured.

I start with workouts with a dynamic warmup patterned off of Jay Johnson's Lunge Matrix. My warmup includes an upper body component. We then start with some arm and leg swings and then I would explain to the runner the purpose of the day's run and make sure they understand the long term and short term objective and how that run relates to the next day and prior day's workouts. The workout would conclude with some injury prevention and strengthwork and nutrition advice as needed.

I have won a number of small 5k races and continue to set PR's better than what I ran in high school while at age 35. I am doing this by being smarter about how I train, recover, eat, plan, etc.

To get a feel how I can best get you to your desired results, whether they are a 5k PR, weight loss, increased endurance, completing a marathon, etc. I will work with you on a customized runner's survey that I created for TeachtoRun.com and my current runners. I will help you set achievable, yet ambitious goals, by reviewing your past trainings and what is currently troubling you.
