More About Coach Maani

As soon as I retired from playing, I started my career in coaching. Since I'm a dual citizen I have worked as a coach in 3 different countries (Iran, England and of course, the US) with all age group, from 8-year-olds and U10 (1 year), U14 and U16(4 years), U18 and U21 (3 years) to semi-pro senior adults (4 years), middle school basketball (3 years) as well as high school (2 years) and collegiate (3 years). I have also worked as a skill development coach in the past 5 years and have worked with some players from Iran's national teams at different ages. At the moment, I'm coaching high school and middle school basketball in NYC. I'm a USABasketball certified coach and also level 1 basketball coach authorized by the Iranian Basketball Federation. I am also a certified personal trainer and that's why my training sessions are focused on both basketball and specific conditioning for basketball which is the main reason I became a personal trainer in the first place.

I've played at all different levels, including high school basketball, collegiate (both in Iran and England), semi-professional and professional for 3 years. I started my playing career as a small forward and then moved to point guard position. I also played as a shooting guard for a couple of seasons, but for the majority of my career, I was a pure point guard who could also play with his back to the basket. I have been a member of teams that won different titles including state champion, 2 straight final four appearances, city champions and more.

Since I was never an athletic type of player by nature, I learned to use my brain and develop my skills from a very young age and that's why my practice sessions are filled with very detailed drills and are always designed to make athletes think and be creative. Considering the fact that I had to quit playing basketball due to injuries, I'm well prepared to work on the physical aspects of athletes upon their request. No athlete can reach their full potentials unless they know how to enjoy and have fun, that's why working out with me is always fun. 60-90 minutes of fun, hard, tough and creative workout is what I expect everytime I prepare myself to train someone.
