More About Coach Larry

Hello,

I am Larry Daniels, originally from Detroit, Michigan. I have lived overseas for most of the last 12 years during a basketball playing career that had me playing professionally at top levels in 15 different countries. Such as Europe, Asian and Middle East Top Leagues and 9 years Coaching experience, the last 4 of which I have been FIBA Certified Top Level.

After college I took my basketball skills overseas where I had great success playing as a professional in various High Level Competitions in Europe and Asia such as the Europe Cup, FIBA Champions Cup and Jones Cup .I also received numerous Awards and Accolades throughout the world as a player including being named one of the top 5 players in Europe History in Offensive Efficiency. Also I have attended NBA training camp for 4 years.

Then I created Maxhoopskills as a tool to train players from youth through high school and college and into the pro ranks. In January 2012, I was given my FIBA certified coaches license. I am currently the Head Basketball Coach and Player Development Manager for a Professional Team in Australia from month's April to September.

Here's what we teach, ordered by priority:
1. Lay ups - We practice lots of lay ups with both hands. Our goal is to get all players to make lay ups with their left and right hands equally well!! Teach them to jump off the proper foot.

2. Footwork - We also teach them triple threat positioning, pivoting on their left and right foot without traveling, jump stops, and to square to the basket as soon as they catch the ball in a triple threat position. We spend a lot of time on footwork!

3. Shooting form - For younger age groups, we highly recommend using smaller balls and lower baskets. If that is not possible, we allow the players to dip their elbows which will give them more strength.

4. Ball handling - We also teach young players to dribble with left and right hands equally. Basic dribble moves such as the speed dribble, crossover, protect-the-ball dribble,back-up dribble and "creating space" off the dribble.

5. Athletic & movement skills - Teaching them how to run, jump and land, skip, stop, move laterally, squat, lunge and any other basic movements.

Client Reviews

My daughter enjoys working with him. He is bringing out skills in her I didn’t know she had. Very personable coach. I would definitely recommend him.

Coach Larry is a very good and effective coach. My shot improved so much just in the first session. The drills we did were fun and were helping improve my ball control.

Within minutes Coach Daniels identified my sons weaknesses and began to work on them. Very diligent and focused on elevating my sons skill set. I noticed by the end of 1 session my sons confidence had risen. Look forward to working with him in our next 4 sessions.

Coach Larry was amazing and completely professional. He was waiting for us when we walked in the door, and he greeted us warmly. My son is 17 and has a good, overall skill set, but Coach Larry was able to quickly assess and identify the areas in his game that need adjustments for overall improvement. Coach Larry has both a personable demeanor and a strong presence. He is a very valuable resource, because his knowledge of the game is second to none. After one session, my son and I knew that he will be a great partner and one with the ability to bring out the best in any player at any level. We look forward to working with Coach Larry again very soon.

Coach Larry was very straight forward and so helpful within an hour...he's a coach that knows what he is doing...and fortunately doesn't cut any slack whatsoever. I highly recommend him. The great thing about it is this is my first session so I know for sure he will make me a dominate player and help me improve. 5 stars!

To whomever that reads this review, please consider Coach/Trainer Larry D to help you with your game. This guy is valuable. I had a great workout session yesterday with Coach Larry. He was intentional, established direction, recognized my weaknesses and gave proper basketball drills that would improve my game. I liked the fact the that Coach Larry is encouraging, but yet won't allow corners to be cut. If I was not properly doing a technique, then there was no "it's alright, lets go to the next drill, or that shot will count". I had to do it until I got it correct. I like people like that. He encouraged, challenged, and conditioned through drills all in one hour. There's no doubt that I will be booking again. Coach, if you read this, thank you for your time and I am looking forward to meeting up again soon.

Coach Daniels is a great basketball coach. I tend to struggle using my left hand while playing basketball, as my right hand is my dominant. Coach Daniels trains me to use my left hand while dribbling and making lay-ups. He gives constructive criticism on shooting form, and encourages me to keep trying until I reach my goal. He has many successful students, and I am on my way to becoming one of them under Coach Daniels. I definitely recommend Coach Daniels for basketball lessons.

I had the privilege of being the Team Manager for Head Coach Larry D during the 2016 Queensland  Basketball League season.  Out of all of the Coaches that I have managed teams for over the past 10 years, Coach Larry D was by  far the most Experienced, Professional and dedicated Coach of them all. His knowledge of the game  and his ability to read his players strengths and weaknesses are outstanding. His training sessions  were always meticulously planned and well structured. Improvements in his players weaknesses  were evident after only a few training sessions.  Coach Larry D’s dedication and passion for the game of basketball extend beyond his Coaching  ability and into Mentorship of his Players. He is a fantastic Mentor and role model to a large number  of players.   I would have no hesitation in recommending Coach Larry D as both an Individual Coach and/or Team  Head Coach.
Coach Larry is a great basketball coach. I have been coached by him for a season in the Queensland Basketball League. I have been through many 1 hour skill sessions with Coach Larry as well as team trainings. He is a coach that is experienced and knows what he is doing which gave me a lot of confidence when playing under him.  Not only has he helped me develop as a player through skill but also in my understanding of the game. I highly recommend Coach Larry as a basketball coach. JORDAN ANNOR
I would like to say that I really didn’t know what to expect going into the Jr. High basketball season this year. After all, K. hasn’t really played basketball other than one time in an Upward league; so I was quite surprised when she told me she was playing this year. It was really hard for her at first, and she wanted to quit after the first week or so. But Coach D. kept telling her just to focus on the skills he was teaching them in practice and they would soon see big improvements. This is exactly what happened. It seemed an overnight revelation took place, and a light bulb turned on somewhere in the girls minds, and all of a sudden they were pretty good, and having fun too! Coach D. knew what he was doing and was able to communicate his knowledge and skills to the girls as well as motivate them into becoming better team players. Coach D. definitely has a gift for coaching as he’s proven that with Kendall’s team. Coach D. will be successful coaching at any level because he has that gift. I wish all of the best for Coach Daniels.
