More About Coach Kirk

I have primarily coached non-competitive runners to complete their first marathon. I have also coached non-competitive marathoners to successfully complete their first ultramarathon. I have mostly coached in Fort Worth, TX, but have also done some virtual coaching for people outside of Fort Worth or with busy schedules. I will work with any age group from 16 and up.

I have been running marathons and ultras off and on for about 15 years. I have never DNF'd (Did Not Finish) a marathon. I have also completed many ultramarathons, including the 100 mile distance. While training for long ultras, I run marathon distance training runs every Saturday and Sunday. I have always been a non-competitive runner.

Initially we will discuss your running experience, what your goals are, what it will take to achieve them, and a weekly training plan.
After that, a typical session will include:
- Discussion of how you are feeling and how your nutrition, hydration, stretching/rolling, and recovery has been.
- A review of your training plan including a checkup of how well you are following it. If we need to tweak it to either increase or decrease the long or short runs, we will discuss and update your plan with any necessary changes.
- Discussion of any issues you've experienced in recent training runs with suggestions for how to overcome them. The focus of this will always be injury prevention first, and anything else second.
- When applicable, discuss any necessary changes to nutrition/hydration/salt/etc strategies during your runs.
- Provide positive reinforcement and help you to focus on your accomplishments as you work toward your goals, one step at a time.
- A reminder of my mantra – “Results or excuses. Pick one.”
