More About Coach Kiara
For the past two years, I have coached collegiate basketball, gaining valuable experience at both the NCAA Division II and JUCO levels. I spent one year coaching at Wilmington University (D2) and another year at Salem Community College (JUCO), working with student-athletes to develop their skills, basketball IQ, and overall performance on and off the court. As I enter my third year of coaching, I am committed to continuing my growth as a mentor and leader, helping athletes reach their full potential. I have primarily worked with college-aged players and have a strong passion for player development, game strategy, and fostering a competitive team culture.
I competed at the collegiate level, playing as a three-year starter at Wilmington University, where I played the guard position and scored over 700 career points. I also played one season at Post University in Connecticut, contributing over 200 points and helping lead our team to a conference championship appearance. During that season, we were regular-season champions, showcasing our team's dedication and success. My experience as a player has greatly influenced my coaching philosophy, allowing me to relate to athletes and help them develop both their skills and mindset for the game.
Developing well-rounded basketball players starts with mastering fundamental skills. Stretching is essential for injury prevention and flexibility, ensuring players are ready to perform at a high level. Ball handling is a key component of success, allowing players to navigate defenses, control the tempo, and create scoring opportunities.
Shooting is another crucial skill, emphasizing proper mechanics, consistency, and confidence from various spots on the floor. Footwork plays a vital role in every aspect of the game, from defense to offensive positioning, helping players gain an advantage over their opponents.
Finally, learning effective moves to the basket enhances a player's ability to finish through contact, read defenders, and create high-percentage scoring opportunities. By focusing on these areas, athletes can elevate their game and build a strong foundation for long-term success on the court.
