More About Coach Khoi

I've been training basketball players for roughly 6-8 years, developing fundamentals, shooting mechanics, and on-court decision-making across a wide spectrum of skill levels. My own foundation comes from playing competitively through high school and was league champs when I was in high school. In men's and church leagues, where I won multiple championships giving me a player's-eye understanding of the game, not just a coach's.

I was mentored and interned under Jordan Lawley, a trainer who works with NBA-level athletes, and I've collaborated with several other respected trainers in the basketball development space, refining my coaching philosophy under proven, high-level instruction.

I've coached across the full developmental spectrum — from 5-year-olds just learning the game all the way up to collegiate-level athletes giving me the versatility to adapt my instruction to any stage of a player's journey. I train out of Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley, Morrison Park in Santa Ana, and Stonegate Park in Irvine, running both group and private sessions, with on-site/in-home training also available for clients within a 30-minute radius. My typical age range spans from 5-year-olds through high school seniors, with experience training college-level players as well, allowing me to build long-term development plans that grow with an athlete.

On the certification side, I hold a CPR certification, ensuring a safe training environment for every athlete I work with.

My competitive playing career was rooted in high school basketball, where our team won a league championship, and I continued competing afterward in men’s leagues and church leagues, winning multiple additional championships. While I didn’t compete at the collegiate or professional level as a player, that competitive foundation, including a genuine championship pedigree that shaped how I understand the game from the floor, not just from the sideline. I’ve since built on that with mentorship under Jordan Lawley, a trainer who works directly with NBA-level athletes, allowing me to bring pro-caliber training principles into how I develop my own athletes.

Every session I run follows a purposeful, progressive structure. I don't just throw drills at an athlete, I build a training arc that mirrors how skills translate to live game situations.

**Warm-Up (5-7 minutes):** We start with dynamic movement prep — activating the muscles and joints an athlete will actually use on the floor, reducing injury risk and priming reaction speed before we touch a ball with intent.

**Ball Handling (15-20 minutes):** From stationary control work to live movement, I progress athletes from mastering the basics pound dribbles, crossovers, hesitations to applying those same moves at game speed, under pressure, and with a defender's mindset in play. This is where footwork, hand-eye coordination, and control under fatigue get built.

**Shooting (15-20 minutes):** We work on mechanics first, base, alignment, follow-through then move into game-realistic reps: catch-and-shoot, off-the-dribble pull-ups, and shooting off movement, so the form holds up when it matters, not just in a static, unopposed environment.

**Live Application (10-15 minutes):** We close every session by putting it all together in live-action plays and small-sided situations, so athletes aren't just drilling skills in isolation, they're learning to read the floor and execute under real basketball conditions.

I also like to incorporate game film review as athletes progress, helping them visually connect what we're building in training to how it shows up in their actual games a habit borrowed from the way NBA-level trainers approach player development.

Every session is tailored to the individual a 5-year-old and a college-level athlete are getting the same intentional structure, but scaled entirely to their skill level and goals.
