More About Coach Kevin
I began coaching at the age of 17, while a senior at Naperville North High School in Illinois. Due to injuries I sustained playing with the 18U Mens National team and while playing collegiate soccer, I was unable to continue my playing career as a professional. With excitement, I entered the coaching world straight out of college and now have accumulated over 20 years of coaching. I have experience coaching at premier clubs in Illinois, Oregon and Colorado. I have coached players ranging from age six to Division 1 athletes and youth national team players. With over 20 years of full time coaching I have learned not only what to coach, but how to coach. I am constantly learning and developing new ways to help the players who train with me. I am fully invested in all of the players I work with and always train with passion and enjoyment. In May of 2020 I stepped away from the Club scene and now focus all of my time and energy in private and small group trainings. Here are a few bullet points of my coaching career.
-USSF B License
-Former Director of Coaching at Chicago Magic (IL)
-Former Staff Coach at Eclipse Select and FC United (IL)
-Former Staff coach at Eugene Timbers FC (OR)
-Former Colorado Rapids ECNL Coach (CO)
As a youth player I played at the highest level in the country. I was a member of both the 16U and 18U Mens US National teams. While playing for the Chicago Magic at the club level, I won several Region II USYSA titles and came close to being crowned the best club team in the country. At Naperville North, I was an All-American team and led our team to the 6A State Championships in which we won in 1998. I also competed in the World Youth Games in Moscow, Russia in 1998 with the US National team (18U). I went on to play college soccer at Wake Forest University and St. Louis University, two of the most prestigious soccer schools in the nation. During my college years, I also played for the Boulder Rapids Reserve and Chicago Fire Reserves PDL teams and made it to the National Championships with both teams.
My intention with all of the players I work with is to improve their game in a multitude of ways: technical, tactical and athletic. My first focus is to teach all the technical aspects. I cover all facets of the game including: passing, receiving, dribbling, different moves to get out of pressure, various ways to beat defenders and multiple techniques on how to strike a ball. In order to have a powerful shot, a sound first touch, adept dribbling and clean passing, the techniques need to be repeated correctly and with intensity. Over time, the necessary skills are developed. My second focus is to train these skills in pressure situations which allows players to grow in a tactical sense and enhance their decision making abilities. Soccer is a game of speed; not just physical speed, but mental speed. It is the smartest players who are able to fully maximize their soccer potential. Soccer I.Q is becoming ever so important in this day and age with so many quality players. You need to be skilled, smart and athletic. My training sessions also include core strengthening, speed ladders and many other exercises to enhance speed and strength. Moreover, I teach nutrition, integrated fitness (restoration, at home mobility exercises, etc) and other ways to lead a balanced life as a student athlete for those who are interested. I always take the time to write up and thoughtfully design sessions that are specifically catered to the player's needs and wants.

Kevin is great

Coach Kevin is fantastic! My daughter immediately gelled with him and he taught her the “why” behind moves/footwork, which is really helpful. Can’t wait to keep training with him!

He’s worth every penny! My daughter (14 yo) loves training with him more than going to practice! She said she loves how much she learns and we’ve all seen how much she’s improved in games. She’s proud of herself and said she’s so happy to finally learn technical skills that she can apply. She also feels comfortable expressing what she wants to learn and what she’s struggling with, with Kevin. He’s a safe person for her. My older son is a lot more experienced in soccer and had watched from the sidelines. He has had private training before, and commented on how much Kevin knows and what an excellent trainer he is. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us Kevin! And thanks for giving my daughter skills and confidence.
Katherine (CoachUp client)
Coach Kevin was excellent! I appreciated that he had a wide variety of footwork soccer skills that were both fun and developmental. I observed him coaching a small group of players and I liked how he showed, had them try, and then re-trained certain moves, as needed. I also appreciated that he made GK work effective for our daughter. She really needed some solid practice in the goal saving and blocking shots, and this small group environment was absolutely perfect for that. She got coaching from Coach Kevin and shots on goal from kids with really solid kicks.
If you are looking for a solid tactical coach in the Denver area, you should talk to Kevin. He keeps practice fun and moving, but also makes sure that players are developing their skills. We had not tried this small group environment in the past, but it was a really great way to get in some extra soccer! Thank you, Coach!

Kevin is fantastic with young kids. He really gets a lot out of my 7 year old twins. They love working with him as well. Their skills are improving quickly and they’re having fun doing it. Kevin’s knowledge of the game and coaching ability are fantastic!

Coach Kevin is an excellent trainer. His technical knowledge and ability to explain to youth players is phenomenal. Kevin is able to break down complex combinations into easy to understand practical applications. Our sons footwork and soccer knowledge has increased dramatically in just 3 sessions.

Background: My son is an 04 and will be visiting several college ID camps over the summer across the US. He's played DA and ECNL for most of his soccer.
On my sons first lesson with Coach Kevin, he made it clear he did not want to see any other coaches. He felt the level of intensity and skillset brought by coach was much higher than any of his previous private lessons. From a parental/former coach perspective, Coach Kevin's attention to detail during drills and desire to have the drills done properly checks several boxes on my list of attributes desired from a strong coach. Additionally, coach has strong communication around logistics and player feedback.
Both my son and I believe Coach Kevin will provide my son the necessary tools and training to be at his best during these camps.

My daughter has only had 1 lesson but several more scheduled. Kevin was great with her and even just 1 lesson boosted her confidence greatly!!
Jen (CoachUp client)
We found Kevin to be very knowledgeable and patient with our (sometimes emotional) 10 year old son, we was very professional and was able to communicate effectively. We saw immediate improvement in our son’s confidence after his first training. He was able to quickly assess his ability and tailor the training to meet his needs. We are already scheduled to meet with Kevin again!
Hannah Bebar (US Youth National Team Member) (Testimonial)
I began training with Coach Wickart when I was a u10 player. He continues to be an instrumental figure in developing my game by implementing a foundation of technical skills, drills, and ladder work that club training did not focus upon. His attention to detail and his strive to improve even the littlest touch caused me to develop a very technical and skillful game. Coach Wickart always takes the time during drills to break down the movements and make them game realistic. He looks at areas that you need to be better in and caters his sessions to those aspects. Overall his commitment to making me better has allowed me to thrive at a higher level.
Ainsley Ahmadian (US Youth National Team Member) (Testimonial)
I started with Coach Wickart when I was 10 years old and every training session has made me a better player. He makes sure that every technique is done properly, which helped to ingrain core skills into my muscle memory that some coaches overlook at practice. From taking the ball down out of the air to seamlessly executing a change of direction move, Coach Wickart has, and continues to, teach me skills that have taken my game to a higher/national level. When I was young, he taught me the fundamentals of the game such as basic passing and dribbling techniques. Now as I get older, he continues to always build off of these fundamentals to add details like passing to a teammates correct foot, which has helped me develop into the player I am today.
