Kevin Parkhurst

Coach Parkhurst is a Level 1 USATF Certified coach with experience coaching the olympic throwing events, such as shot put, discus hammer and weight throw, at the high school and collegiate level. Since 2012 athletes coached by Coach Parkhurst have won over 10 state championships, over 20 All-State awards and dozens of All-Region awards. He has expertise in the rotational and glide shot put techniques and has helped produce All-State athletes in both disciplines. In 2018 alone 5 athletes that were coached by Coach Parkhurst earned scholarships to Division I or Division II schools.

Coach Parkhurst walked on the track and field team at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2008 and committed himself to the process of learning the hammer throw. The most valuable thing that he earned during his time as a Division 1 athlete was an understanding of the time, effort and work ethic required to succeed at that level and intends to impart that knowledge to the next level.

Athletes can expect a thorough warm-up and then a series of drills to help the athlete grow in their knowledge and understanding of the technical aspects of a shot put, discus or hammer/weight throw. Mixed in with the drills will be opportunities to try the new skills in the ring where Coach Parkhurst will give constructive feedback and drills to work on at home.
